Hey guys and gals, just have a couple questions like......
1. What is the best kelvin rating to grow plants?
2. I plan on outfittin my eclipse hood with two regular sockets with cfl bulbs, my question is there someway that I can attach the lights to the inside of the hood?
3. I plan on having shultz aqua soil as a substrate, but if they don't have that, what is the best thing to get to grow plants in?
4. Wheres the cheapest place online to find hc?

Thanks everyone~

OK, lets see....

look for bulbs in the 6500K range..

Why take out the Fluorescents and retro fit with compact fluorescents? Just buy daylight fluorescents to fit the eclipse hood (arent they all fluorescent?)

Home depot and Menards sell replacement light sockets, they have mounting brackets attached. use those to attach to the hood.

I have seachem fluorite in my tank, bought it at petsmart..

I have some HM, will that work for ya?

Hmmmm lookin it up, is it alot like hc? Can I grow it emersed?

BTW thanks!

Because it is a pretty small eclipse, a hexagon 5. the bulb that is in there is long and skinny, they have one like that?

So is it a fluorescent bulb or incandescant?
some of the 5's were incandescant, and some were fluorescent.
if the bulb screws in, just screw in a 6500K compact fluorescent bulb..

I like the 75W compatable ones, they draw about 23 watts.

I actually already went and saw that they had really small cfl's and that is just what I was looking for! Now, I d k I couldn't find a shoplight that had a kelvin rating of higher than 6500 do the cfl's come in higher ratings? Also how is the hm as a foreground plant looking for something low to the ground if you know what I mean, and do you think it wil grow in 23 watts over a 5 gallon, probably soil as a substrate and diy co2 is that ok for it?

^^ Good thats what I am going for. It is not for a 5 gallon hex but for a 10, hinse the shop lights

6500K is almost the same as 6700K, if I where you, I would have bought it. 18" flourescents are available in 6700K from what I've seen, except only in T12. HC would do great in a 5 gallon tank with CO2 and 23 watts, I'm not sure about in a 10 though.

I've used shultz aqua soil in all my tanks and it's a pain. It traps dirt really well and gets also gets sucked up when you try to siphon it really well.
