just moved to Ruidoso, NM!
My lighting fixture has one spot for a bulb, and I can't afford to upgrade, so I am hoping that there exists a 24" fluorescent bulb that is between 40 - 60 watts. Anyone know of one? the cheaper the better.

thank you!

I don't think so. 24" fixtures hold 18" bulbs that are 15 Watts. You can purchase a 24" twin tube fixture and get 30 Watts out if it though. The only way to get higher wattage out of that fixture is to retro fit it with CFLs. I'm not sure how to do that and if you find out let me know.

its a 24" bulb that the fixture houses. does that help at all? it's a 20 watt, and now that it's winter the sun is not supplementing my low low lighting (i have a 29 gallon tank) and my plants are starting to suffer.

if there is no high wattage 24" light, what would be the cheapest way to get 60 watts of light on my tank?

Maybe find a local store that sells used lighting or perhaps a shop light from Lowes or The Home Depot that houses a few bulbs. Sometimes you can find a decent deal in the classified page here.

By increasing the lamp wattage you create a second problem - whether or not the regulator can support the heavier requirements. You need to see what the regulator is capable of handling.

The coralife would not work in your fixture. Do you have a T12 bulb? You're stuck with 20 watts unless you get a new hood or light strip.
