I'm getting a 55 gal aquarium for Christmas. My favorite fish
are Yellow Tail Acei, Electric Yellow Labs, and Red Zebras.
With that size tank, how many of each can I have in it..
considering their size as adults? plus a pleco that grows no
bigger than 5".. if there is one..LOL

Thanks,
Suzi

3 groups of five, 1 male/4 females per group

thank you, question is... stores like petsmart are stocking males for the most part. can they all be males?

That is sort of what I'm going to do for my 55 gallon tank, 4 labs, 4 Aceis, and 4 Red zebras would do fine. I would say no to the pleco, those don't really belong in an african cichlid aquarium. I've also heard stories of the cichlids biting the eyes out of plecos.

My personal experience is that not all cichlids will let plecos live in the same tank. I say always have a backup plan.

Most stores like petsmart sell hybrids, and if I would have to guess I would say that most are males. An all male tank can work but it takes a lot of experimentation to find the right group.

Thank you!
I had an yellow lab in 20g. I had him for 4 yrs and he was 5" and died.. He was surely a gorgeous fish. I think the 3 of these
of these fish would make a beautiful tank.
I'll worry about algae eater later.

I'll work on getting the cichlids to get along and worry about
the pleco later.

hey its a toss up but if your looking for an algae eater, well mbuna love algae and will graze on it so you would want to encourage algae growth as a supplement for them, a tank full of all males within an mbuna setup will work nicely but you have to make sure you have all males, out of 15 fish if you have 2 females it will be a disaster especially if happens to be the zebra's and if you must have an algae eater i would go with an albino chinese algae eater they can hold their weight against an african most times, take care..

the labs and acei would be good. just watch the reds. they are extremely aggressive and will kill anyother fish for territory ect. so, if u do go with them, have ALOT, i mean TONS of rocks for the others to hide. like im talking like 100lbs. alot of rocks. lol.

Regarding the pleco, you don't actually need one as such - if you want some catfish synodontis species are the way to go in an African Cichlid tank.

If you decide you want the pleco, bristlenose or rusty plecs are your best bet.
