Qs-tip #9 Starting a siphon without sucking.

i was doing the yank up and down really fast that the package told me to do.. but that water in the AQ would really get to moving around and would always kick up major dust..

i will try this way.. thanks

You guy's crack me up. First time I picked up a siphon I figured this one out. I always figured some people just liked the taste of their fishwater.

Now Q how do you start a siphon on a tank that is too small to do that with the siphon? (the length of the gravel vac > the diameter of the tank).

I'll assume the tank is small and the vacuum is too.

Cork the end of the hose and fill the whole hose up with water from the sink making sure all the air is out. Stick the gravel vac into the tank and then uncork the hose into your bucket. With luck the hose is long enough to get the flow started.

I still sucked the output end of the tube -_-.

I am old school.
:thm: Me too. My drain point is low enough that all it take is a quick suck(I don't believe I typed that :evil_lol:) and I'm done. When i switch tanks I just shut it off at the valve and place it in the next tank and open the valve.

or you could stick the whole thing in the tank so that way the hose fills up, leave one end in the water and put your finger over the hose. then pick up that end out of the water still blocking it off with your finger. than get it lower than the other end, and when you release your finger it will start. i hope the directions are clear.

I have a 15 foot hose.....I would have to suck a lot of air to get any water in my mouth...

MUAHAHAHAHAHA

I have a Lee's changer, and just use the valve. :D I remember the days of the little "manual" gravel vac, where you had to jerk it off to get it to work.

I have a 50 foot hose, so I would definetely know when the water is about to fill up my mouth with week old fish water. This tip is good to know for smaller hoses and tanks. I could try it the next time I do a water change.
