Qs-tip #9 Starting a siphon without sucking.

i use some airline tubing for some of my wc and i LOVE the tast of my aquarium water! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! o! wait, i mean the other way around!!!!!

Another great tip Q! You're making it too easy for these new folks though... I don't wanna see a day when there's aquarists who don't know what their water tastes like :grinyes:

Alas! I have not yet tasted my aquarium.
Although, technically, my fish get their water from the same place I do...
Does sink water in ramen count? :lol2:

Yeah! No more fish water in my mouth

I use my filter to start my siphon..and it's great for Wc as well quick and easy...

i've swallowed water out of all my tanks even after i got a python lol

I have never tasted my tank water. Just give a quick suck on the end of the hose. You can see the water in the clear tube. Once the water starts to come over the rim of the tank put your thumb over the outflow and then put the end into a bucket or sink etc...then remove your thumb and the water will flow. You learn this trick quickly if you ever had to siphon gasoline...lol. This method works great unless you have a small thumb...;)

I like your idea too...Q.

or you could stick the whole thing in the tank so that way the hose fills up, leave one end in the water and put your finger over the hose. then pick up that end out of the water still blocking it off with your finger. than get it lower than the other end, and when you release your finger it will start. i hope the directions are clear.

This is what I do, too.

i was doing the yank up and down really fast that the package told me to do.. but that water in the AQ would really get to moving around and would always kick up major dust..

i will try this way.. thanks

Ya know, that's how I started out gravel vacuuming as well! I stopped doing wc's altogether shortly after getting my first tank 4 years ago b/c I found the process of removing the old tank water so trying and difficult! Those directions are ridiculous! I'd like to slap the people who came up with those directions! That first tank failed, and I swore off fish... for a while, anyways:)

Thank you so much Q! I have been using plain hosing with no siphon tube, and I hate sucking on the end to get it started.

I sucked until I got one of those moster hoses that hooks to my sink and does the sucking for me. Sometimes I miss sucking though! LOL

It makes me happy knowing I help even one person with every tip. Each thank you I get makes my day and makes it a pleasure to post these tips. Thank YOU for your reply.
