Just heard about these shrimp and I'm stoked that there is a caridina species that can be housed with red cherries! So far it seems the only person selling them is Mustafa from PetShrimp.com and I see that Bill from ArizonaInverts.com got a few from Mustafa and his are berried, probably hatched by now. It's just too bad they're $7.50 each with a minimum buy of 10 :( I just don't have $75 to spend on shrimp.

Anyone else have these shrimp or additional pictures of them? Just another thing to add to the wishlist =/

cherries are neocaridina...can't any caridina species be housed with them?

yep, thats how I understand it...

I have some sulawesis...

The issue is not interbreeding, but the difference in parameters. Malawi shrimp also like harder water unlike most caridina species.

This species is not curently being imported (at least on any exporter or wholeseller list I have seen). Additionally you will experience much higher losses with wild caught shrimp then with captive bred. The LFS and even the wholesellers often mislabel the species or just make up their own names for various species. There are several caridina species can be kept in the same conditions as neocaridinas including Malaya Shrimp, Sri Lanka Shrimp, Indian Zebras, green shrimp and Malawa Shrimp.

ah thanks for the clarification

yeah the issue with parameters is what I meant, shoulda stated that in the beginning.

Oblongshrimp, would you happen to have the scientific name of Indian Zebra shrimp or is it just Caridina sp.? I guess that goes for Sulawesi shrimp as well, I'm a little confused because many species of Caridina shrimp with strikingly different coloration (which I'm assuming breeds true, but of course I could be wrong) seem to simply be labelled Caridina sp. Does that just mean no one has bothered to classify them yet, or is there some sort of governing body that decides these things?

I guess the Caridina from SE Asia (Indonesia and Malaysia...does Sri Lanka count as SE Asia, it's a little further west?) all like softer water.
