Pleco for 36gal other than BN

Now I need to get a variety of foods for her to munch on. I've got some algae wafers but will be picking up some cucumber to keep her on a varied diet.

I have never had a pleco that did such a wonderful job dominating the algae in my tank. In the two nights I've had her she has cleaned every square inch of glass, driftwood and even the leaves of my Amazon Swords.

Unfortunately with her healthy appetite comes a rather uhhh busy digestive tract. :eek3:

I recently got some "pitbull plecos", parotocinclus. They only get 2-3 inches and they clean at least as well as my bristlenose. I love them!

son of a b... :swear:

I lost her tonight. :(

My tank seemed weird yesterday before I left for work. There seemed to be a lot of sediment in the water (larger particles, not just cloudy). Didn't appear to be plant matter or fish waste, just really weird but the fish seemed fine (just the BN Pleco and my Pictus cat that I've had for 5 years). I came home from work and tested the water (0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrites, 5ppm nitrates, 7.2pH) and did a 50% water change as I do every week and dosed some prime.

I came home from work today to find my pictus acting a little sluggish but the pleco loafing happily on the drift wood. Tested water params again with the same results. I blanched a cucumber for the BN to eat and shut off the lights. I checked on them about two hours later and the pleco was on the glass and my pictus was in its usual spot but the cucumber was untouched. Checked them again about an hour after that and the pleco was belly up on the bottom. No outer signs of injury or disease and her color was good.

I lost a BN pleco a few weeks ago in much the same way. I had it for about a week, it cleaned off everything in the tank, was eating cucumber, algae wafers etc, next day found it dead. No idea why.

Maybe I need to get a younger fish. This one appeared close to adult size (3-4 inches). The only problem is you can only find lots of 6 on aquabid for sale. I don't need that many and wouldn't know what to do with the rest. Maybe I'll talk to the LFS about giving me some store credit in exchange for some baby BN's. mgamer used to have some for sale but he doesn't any longer.

I picked up a new BN about a week ago. This one appears to be a juvenile male with a lot of personality and a voracious hunger for cucumber. He likes to venture around the tank with the lights on and appears to enjoy the company of the other fish (a shoal of peppered corydoras and my old pictus cat).
