Here is my JD. Close to 6 inches now. Got him about 4 months ago when he was 2 inches.

i was gonna say that too.....all the splotches on the jaw line say female
In most cases the Female Color will be lower and the male will be higher..
Mainly the most common way of sexing without venting is the gill plates
Blotchy or lots of blue on the lower gill plates going under is Female...
More spots and Higher on the gill plate, and little blue on the lower is male.. Many time the males will have absolutely no blue on the lower gill plates ..
also his female can be male i have seen a few males that look like yours

usualy teh female has a mist of blue on her gills but other femals may only have a few blue dots on her gills ... hard to tell sometimes ..
Well, here's my big meany. I assume he's a male. Maybe 7-9 inches in length. I think I got him like 1.5-2yrs ago. He was a little guy when I got him. Grew real fast at first!
In a 56g tank pretty much by himself. Just 3 cory cats remaining, and when they go, I doubt I could put anything else in there with him as he nips/bites at anything.
He loves to move my fake plants regardless of where I put them he isn't happy with the placement, lol.
