I'm calling on fellow Jerseians for some info on a pet store. Has anyone been to the Pet Aslyum on Route 9 in Howell???? Are they any good? How is their selection on FW fish and supplies.
TIA

I don't know that store, but if you want to check out a nice store, look into Tropiquarium in Ocean Twsp. I took a ride there a few weeks ago and they have a large selection. I think it's on Rt 35, just south of Monmouth Mall, probably only a stones throw from you. It may be just a bit far for me to transport fish, about 45 mins.

Do you know if they stock flourite, and live plants?

I'm from NJ but blanking on where Howell is hahah i dont know how far you are from Blackwood but there is AMAZING fish store there right on Blackwood-Clementon Road called Aquarium Center... 600 tanks and the biggest plant wall in all of SJ.... PM me if you want the link to their store and they do stock Flourite....

Is Blackwood in camden county? I'm in central Jersey, that would probably be too far for me.

yeah blackwood in camden county... sorry lol thought it would be worth a shot... good luck!

Continuing with the NJ fish stores....

I'm in the northwest part of the state and still looking. Most of the Mom and Pop stores have folded and all we're left with is chain stores. I went to 4 yesterday and my local Petsmart is the best.

Dover Pet has healthy stock, but has a limited supply.
Absolutely Fish in Clifton has a great selection, but their prices are at least 3 times what they should be. Also, their fish don't seem to like my water.

Any suggestions for us in the northern part of the state? I'd look through the "sticky" but 27 pages is a lot to filter through.

Isn't it terrible, that there aren't many mom and pop shops in Jersey anymore? The chain stores never have what I am looking for, and We've got about 6 of them in about 5 square miles. If I have money falling out of my hooha I'd open my own store.

I've been very happy with Ely's Tropical Fish in Florham Park, NJ 07932. They have a good selection of FW. I've had good luck with the health and quality of the fish.
