New Jersey Fish Stores

I will probably be buying my stock at the Pet Shanty on rt 22 west in Scotch Plains. He has a pretty nice livestock selection there. If you check out their website, it seems like they are true enthusiasts. Several detailed articles. They seem to have the scientific names on alot of the stock tanks also. I will be paying a visit again today to check on stock again(my cycle is basically complete!). Also Ocean Gallery II in N. Plainfield on rt 22 east. Nice place, but not a large FW selection.

Isn't it terrible, that there aren't many mom and pop shops in Jersey anymore? The chain stores never have what I am looking for, and We've got about 6 of them in about 5 square miles. If I have money falling out of my hooha I'd open my own store.

So let's do it.... somewhere in between us. :)

im useless for south jersey, if you are near hackensack, theres a place called a reef encounter, they have a pretty big store, both fw and sw fish, live plants, all kinds of tanks, lights, all kinds of accessories. Its the best one i have found, but then again i live in river edge which is next door.

Holy Moley! The pet shanty is still there? I lived in Scotch Plains some 10 years ago.

I managed to get to the Pet Asylum today. It's not bad, the place is packed to the gills. They have a decent selection of aquatic supplies (and if they don't have it, they'll order it) Lots of fish too. Livestock prices are good. Equip is average. On a side note, they had hairless guinea pigs, and I gotta tell ya, they are the wierdest but cutest things. I picked up some eco complete there and black sand + a heater (the eco complete was pricey).

if youre looking for nice freshwater plants, absolutely fish does have a large selection but like someone said, they are very overpriced.

Last time I was there they had a bunch of marimo balls, riccia on lava rock, HUGE mats of java fern, and some really nice looking swords

My husband got my 40 gallon at place called Beital's Exotic Aquariums in Pearl River, NY. I don't know how close that is to you, but he originally said he went to Jersey for it, so must be on the border. He said of all the places he looked this was one of the least expensive all glass aquariums. www.beitalsaquariums.com

I don't know how I missed this thread! I live less than 10 minutes away from Pet Aslyum. It's an ok LFS...I just wish they would stop selling puppies and use that room to have some nice planted display tanks.

I really like Tropiquarium. They have a large selection of FW (and an even larger selection of SW) and its very bright and clean inside. They usually have a nice selection of plants as well. You should check that one out next!

I definately will check out Tropiquarium next. Maybe today. Thank you:)

Bethany, UpstateNYer and I will be making a trip next month to Jersey to visit MissMeliss. We will be staying close to NYC/NJ border and if youre interested, we could car pool to the store. We will be going to aquarium center.
