AquAdvisor - software to help you stock your tanks!

I can see a potential for using this program. Sorry I no longer code. Been too long and I never learned C.

You show a pleco as being peaceful and if you qualify the type it may be more accurate. A full grown common is anything but. Serpae tetras are semi-aggressive as well and belong with the likes of tiger barbs and blackskirt tetras. None of those make for good community fish but do very well in a semi-ag tank.

Good luck and keep up the good work!

Got your point about common pleco.

Serpae was an error on my part - thanks. I have a question for this one and other "aggressive" tetras. Are these guys also aggressive against each other, and not just against other species?

yhbae, I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that there is a way to compile a mac version within the .NET Studio (if that is what you are using). Here is a link I stumbled across if this helps:

http://mac.sillydog.org/dev/visual_studio.php

I'm also a recent computer programmer graduate, unfortunately I never learned C# but if you need any help with logistics, or ideas, please feel free to PM me or ask on the board, I will check frequently.

I was also curious as to where you store your information, this may be more work, but if you get a lot more fish info, it may be beneficial to make it database driven, either through the web, or using SQL server (you can use the free express version ;))

Thanks for the link, I'll look into it. It would be hard for me to imagine such a tool exist though - internally, APIs are probably totally different knowing Microsoft and Apple. It would be hard for someone to create a tool that can map everything 1-1.

I thought about using a real DB but did not, for now. I found a easy way to manage it and it works well. I basically use a big Excel sheet to store all fish DB, and the last column constructs C# statements which I can directly paste into my code... :D Unconventional, but it works and its simple. As a bonus, since all info are stored in memory, it is really fast.

Blackskirts, tigerbarbs, and serpaes are usually species specific but can be fin nippy towards others. Blackskirts, serpaes, tigerbarbs will do well in a single community as long as they are not crowded.

After two hours it had still not even started downloading and I couldnt end it with task manager AND it has made my PC run super slow.

Did you try to download to your PC first? The ZIP file is only 200KB... Should take only few seconds to download max. I'm not sure why a normal download would make your PC run slow... :werd:

Nice, simple and quick.

Did get an invalid handle error when putting decimal points in the tank dimensions, and only seemed to like whole numbers (v0.2).

Where's the love for loaches? ;)

Fishbase could be useful in expanding your database...

Didn't even think about using decimal place in tank dimensions... :D I'll make sure only the numeric characters can be entered in those fields. I think 99.9% of all tanks don't need decimal places for their dimensions.

Loaches are coming... :)

I'm having install issues also. This is my third attempt to try to install. Whenever it gets to configuring the components it just stops. :( I want to see the spiffiness!

Update: Okay so now it finally installed. 4th time is the charm I guess. While it had an error the first time loading, it's fine now. Not sure what the issue was before LOL I love they way this program works, I just wish you had more tetra options, and also some cold water fishes in the database would be awesome! Thanks so much for such neat software!
