a fish tank for a museum

yiiiiiiiikes...and you'd think these guys would know better...maybe you can suggest to the museum to use the old water from water changes to water their live plants and landscaping? to soften the blow of how much water is actually necessary to keep fish "happy"

Bichirs ftw very prehistoric lol

IS allll that white crap on the aqua clear filters hard water and mineral deposits? If so that is just ridiculous they would let it get that way....

FTW yup :eek3:

the future stocking of the tank is the one undecided here.

There is the curator, the paleo and the designer who have ideas and then there is the fish dude me.

One train of thought they wish since this is the royal saskatchewan museum of natural history is fish found within the fossil record of the province, which means I will for sure be able to get a wolffish(bowfin) when and if I can locate one.

Another train of thought is keep the existing gar and place tank mates with him that fit the profile of being archaic looking. To this end I placed an order today for 2 ornate bichir, I have 2 cuvier in one of my tanks here. I also have 2 ripsaw cats and 2 nice big striped raphael cats. At home I have 2 very nice black congo knife fish that I got that were mislabled as clown knifes at the store. Another 2 fish that I have in one of my tanks here is 2 dwarf rainbow snakeheads so they might be considered as well

One other train of thought is to put a variety of different fish that will cover bottom, mid and top water levels and that opens up a wonderful box of crayons for me to draw a picture with.

Yet, when it comes down to it, this is the museums tank and it will be what they want it to be. My job is to make sure that it is the best tank that can be done given the directions. I look forward to this as I am actually now employed by her majesty the queen of england as the contract is between her and I :headbang2:.

The designer told me that the stocking will be decided in about a week or so, but that I was to start on the fixing of this for them.

Go with an Endli like this one:

whoooo that thing is super sharp

They have not given me the stocking yet, but I have started to order fish and get some. On order is 2 ornate bichir, for pick up is a needle nose gar on monday.

Last night I was picking up some fish from my 150 here and happened to look over into the senegal bichir tank and spotted these two little ones they sure did not look at all like my senegal that I own, so I bought them. Even if the museum dont go with the stock I have started to get I will have homes for them.

If anyone has any ideas as to what these are would love a guess, my camera washes them out but they have very dark horizontal lines on the face with heavy accent of white above the eye and on the cheek

they are really tiny and are in my dwarf gourami corner tank

at home I have 2 black congo knifefish that are about 4-5 inch and 8-9 inch

I did pick up the fx5 today but after looking at it I am totally sure it would create a intense amount of water flow on their 250 so I will put one of my rena 4 on their tank and put this fx on my 300g

Polypterus senegalus

what you didn't know who to ask lol

interesting the senegals that I have are solid brown with no color variation and these ones are greyish and black with the white pattern did not know they could be differing like that thanks for the id

now to grow them out for the tank

What you are seeing are juviniles the pattern will fade as they get older till its non existant
with the exception of some black dots usually above the lateral line the dorsal color can vary from green to grey.the ventral color will range from wihte to cream colored
