Ok so it is very funny that you would say this because tonight we went in the first time at 11 pm to do the first battery of water tests and get a good handle on what to do. I just got the total set of security card clearance, keys and such a few days ago.

Well in the area where the fish tank is just before you get to it there is a killer display of the dinosaur coming out of the roof made to look like you are in the sea and its diving to get you. Well I turned on half the lights so it was sort of surreal walking to the tank, when all of sudden my daughter and her friend who were with me turn the corner to this area and the motion sensor activates the soundtrack for the dinosaur. ahhahahahahhaha It totally freaked them out and I did not know that it was a motion activated soundtrack.

Will post pics later, here they are imagine low low light and bam sound goes on and you see this

ok so tonight was my first full access time to get the deconstruction started
ill dispense with the many test kit shots but will show one of them, all of the tanks pretty much came in almost the same- nitrate off the charts, ammonia 1.2 ppm, and nitrite 0.8 or slightly above that. When i shared it in chat the response what whats dead in the water??? I do not desire to make the previous dude look bad his work speaks for itself. AND MY CAMERA TOTALLY WASHES OUT STUFF SO THE REAL LIFE PICTURE IS FAR WORSE THAN THIS PICTURE SHOWS

The red ear slider was dead in its tank when I got there tonight, I really figured it was the living dead because it made no attempt to get away from me at all when I grabbed it a week and half ago. so very sorry to see this turtle dead.

I did a 50% water change on the feeder tank, switched out the crusty old filter for a new one with new media all around I figured the last thing I needed to worry about was the beneficial bacteria in the old filter.

On the bichir grow out tank I did the 50% wc, put a filter on the tank since there was nothing but one of those late 70's corner carbon in tank jobbies, also added a heater since the water was none to warm.

With the main tank I did not do a wc yet as I want to get the rena xp4 i have seasoned up hooked to the tank before I do the wc, did the water test and topped up the tank.

I am actually shocked that anything is still living in these tanks considering how the test results showed

The very interesting thing with the spotted gar was that she just seemed to know that I was there to make it better she came to the top of the water and just stared at me

I spent a good 5 minutes just talking to her letting her know that I would not have let her home get like this and that I was gonna make it all better. My daughter took some shots from the front

now yall might think I am bonkers for talkin to the fish like she understands but I really do believe that the fish I care for understand what I am intending for them, not the words but the emotions and feelings.

I so very greatly hope that I can recover this tank without it crashing and this great old gar who is 10 years old dying. I will be going to treat all the tanks with prime tomorrow in an attempt to neutralize the nitrate sewer this tank water is.

I have on order a eheim sludge remover vacum for this tank so that I can keep the substrate pristine, since I can not switch it sand because of the way its under gravel system is, open the valve and water goes into sump pump bye bye open the water fill valve and tank refills. Herein is another issue with this tank I have to refill it with cold from the pipe I have a few ideas on how to counter this will have to see. yet the task at hand is to get this tank fish safe without losing this gar. I am very hesitant to add new fish till I get the parameters within acceptable grounds

Dude, I'm quite happy that you are taking care of these tanks and the inhabitants. Very sorry to hear about the turtle, being a turtle keeper myself.

Oh, and I can't wait to go home and look at the pix because the stupid NetNazis block photobucket @ work, so I can't see them.
