New gourami, stressed? or what?

could the current be too strong for him? That is why he hides or rests?

Could be, I guess. It's a hex tank though, I would think the current at the bottom wouldn't be too much. How would I lower the flow? It's an Eclipse system.

The current in an eclipse hex is NOT to strong for ANYTHING! Trust me. I have one. when's the last time you tested ammonia levels?

Yeah that's what In figured. :( Just tested again, still 0.

I saw a poo strand, it might've looked stringy- not really sure what I'm looking for, though. But not constipated, I guess.

 Are you SURE your thermometer is working right? You said you were suprised the temp is that low. 78 should be about perfect, but if you were cranking up the heater, and your thermometer is broken, 88 could be doing this.

What are your other levels?

It's actually up to 80 now, maybe because the house is warmer. I didn't crank it up, it only has one setting. I felt the water, it seems the same as my other tank which is 79.

Everything is still zero... he's gasping at the bottom now, dammit. I guess my test kit could be wrong (API liquid) but it's been fine for my other tank. Should I do a PWC anyway or would that be more stress?

Wow, I really don't know what's up.

Is there a possibility of contamination? Lotion, windex, febreeze, did you forget Prime....

I'm wracking my brain! I used dechlorinator that's made for smaller tanks, it's too hard to dose the Prime that low.

To me, a gourami 'gasping' says either ammonia or chlorine/chloramines is high. Here's how I see it: whatever is causing the problem is in the water. Changing it can't hurt (as long as you properly condition the water, and equalize temp) The fish hasn't had long enough to 'get used to' whatever in the water anyway.

I think 2 drops per gallon is pretty easy to dose, but in any case...

I know I'm asking the same questions again, but trying to spark your memory...

have you stuck your hands in the tank after washing with soap? putting on lotion? isn't this tank on your desk (in an office)? could maintenance have sprayed an air freshener? I don't know if you're a man or woman sooo this could be awkward, but do you have perfume on your wrists ever? makeup residue on your fingers?
