Microsoft just released Windows 7 release candidate 1 for public download, which you'll be able to use for free (ie without naggy bs for ms) until June of next year.

I've been running betas for a while now on my laptop and it's alot better than the crap slow vista, even on older (non vista compatible) pc's.

Download and try for free here:

How do you like it?- thinking of downloading into the extra hard drive on my computer. Have XP right now.

I bin running the betta for a while and I like Windows 7!

In my opinion and from personal experience using it, vista should have been what windows 7 is right now, granted you need at least a 256mb vid card to have all features fully functional (like aero, task bar extras, additional themes, etc..), but it will run just fine on an at least 1ghz cpu system with a gig of ram and a 40 gig drive (took around 15-16gb to install the os). If not using it full time, you should at least try it, especially if running vista.

I am pretty sure it is going to be better than crappy Vista.
Is it better than XP? (Speed & Stability)

So far the betas have been pretty stable and running at about the speed of xp (some features, like preloaded games, etc, are slower, but everything essential is relatively up to speed).

Thank you, ib3ak...
One more Question. I promise it is going to be the last one. :)
Does it include the most of the drivers in the installation package or do I have to search web to get the appropriate hardware drivers?

I believe the only driver I had to download outside of windows installation was the audio driver (I don't recall exactly, but I think it might have been picked up later through windows update; and various non hardware related IBM apps, like the on screen keyboard prompts and others, but that's as expected with any os), EVERYTHING else was picked up by the os and installed automatically, even my cisco wifi nic (which had trouble being recognized under xp, vista and linux out of the box).

I installed this last week ( part of the beta team ), and i have to say, its flawless on my system...no drivers to download, nothing..it just worked out of the box, as they say....

The beta for Vista and Windows 7 does not even compare. Win 7 is 200% a better product that Vista could ever be...
