ok. so i am planning on buying a new cansiter filter, seeing as how my biowheel is.. not workin so well.

so its between two different canisters, the fluval 305 or the eheim 2215.

i would lik to hear some of your experiences and likes or dislikes with these filters.

ill be using them on a 46 gallon bowfront.

I didn't like my fluvals, they were noisy, hard to clean and i kept breaking parts. I have only ever had the one eheim and imo was MUCH better than the fluvals.

Eheim... don't wate your money if you can afford the Eheim, get it.

ok. why so much against the fluval? every review i read on other websites said they are excellent filters. so whats the problem with them?

Its not them, It is what you Are comparing them too, Eheim is like a F1 car, Fluval is like a Civic.

I have several fluval's 404, 404, 305 and 104. They all work like a champ. All of my tanks are over filtered. The planted 46 bow has a Magnum 350 and hot 250. I've invented my own spray bars to keep surface agitation to a minimum. Bio balls in the 350 and Micron in the hot 250. The only ehiem is a 2215 teamed with a 104 on a 33 long. The ehiem is easier to clean, but needs to get cleaned more often then the 104. Not sure I've given you an answer to your question... More likely suggesting having two filters as rated by the mfg to meet your needs if you have planted tanks. IMO Having one sports car is fun, but having two minivans may be more practical.

I like fluval since I can always get spare parts of which the most common thing replaced are impellers and the impeller plate. The only problem I've had with ehiems are blown gaskets and the darn clips break... which can lead to leaks rather than having no flow as would be the issue with fluvals when they most commonly break

I have a fluval and like it. Plus where I live they're cheaper than the eheim.

Ok, I have never blown a gasket on an Eheim... Infact the only way I could think of of doing that... Actually now Im interested how did you do that?
