What does it take to survive

My cousin got a couple of smallmouth bass for a 55 gallon tank and when they got kinda big they just kept ramming the side of the tank and died :/

Bass are not aquarium fish. They should kept in a pond, unless you have a monster tank.

My wife has a friend from Africa,and every time she comes over and sees all the fish,and all the tanks(some from Africa),she laughs and says,"Why do you keep dinner in a glass box?"
We keep other countries native fish in aquariums,there really is no difference in keeping our own.

Aren't sunfish schooling fish?

Not in a 55 gallon...you could most certainly do larger fish than a bass, but how many people actually have tanks that support those fish? Barely any.

Point is, people are suggesting not to go with bass NOT because it's native, but because of the size compared to the tank...
