wohoo :) beautiful fish . love the tangs :)

Very nice tank for a first try ! I LOVE the rockscape !

Have you thought of trying nassarius snails ? They trundle through the substrate very well. I don't think they eat the diatoms, but they will stir the substrate for you. Might help some.

Again, beautiful tank !

Thanks owl! I am excited about them, hope they stay healthy and get along in the long run.

Thank you Emg, this liverock was very easy to work with, stacked easy, and naturally forms little crevices and tunnels. They had a bunch of it at the wholesaler when my lfs owner had gone to get the live rock. I do have nassarius, but probably not enough - i think i only had 6 when i initially stocked the cuc, never see them out, except on rare occasion. the diatoms have died back quite a bit over past several weeks, and right now algae seems to be in check, am starting to get a nice greenish tinge on the rocks, and staying off the substrate....for now atleast.

great tank and beautiful fish...what size is the tank?

Mr. ciclid, thank you too. the tank is a standard 180g - 72X24X24. Thanks for looking.

Watch your purple tang as they are some of the most agressive ones out there. So if the Black is hiding you will know why. I agree nasaurus (spelling) are a good choice. See if you can find a sand eating cucumber or sand stars. I have the later in my 600g along with horse shoe crabs and my sand stays pretty clean. What additives are you adding right now for the corals. You might want to get some 2 part putty to hold your corals in place - it wont like being knocked over very much. Pretty tank by the way.

thereef, Thanks for the advice. Will have to try the putty soon. I've gotten into this bad habit of moving stuff around, and think am getting close to where i want things. The tangs are doing ok. still some displays of aggression and tail lashing b/w the two tangs. No visible injuries. Black tang is not scratching itself as much. Some lateral line erosion has become noticible on purple tang, am trying to feed varied diet prime reef flake, hikari brine shrimp w/ spirulina, nori sheets (usually not eaten). here are some pics of current critters.

OK, so came home today to find something interesting. My clowns are hanging out together! I had bought both maroons at the same time, picked these two due to different coloration/patterns. Well the one with the complete circumferential bars was beaten up pretty badly after a few days and has since stayed in one corner of the tank. The fins have now healed up pretty well. Now best buds all of a sudden. Courting, not courting behaviour, i'm not sure. They remind me of a pair of convicts I had as a kid. They are about the same size (thought females supposed to be larger, maybe they're different ages?)anyway, here are some pics.

Had to include pics of my other guys. They just seem to want their picture taken today, kept swimming in front of the clowns.
