Ace25's 75G Build Thread

well he has helped me out tremendously i started and is helping me with my 34 gal upgrade pretty good to as well

:1zhelp:
Because I won't be moving into a house I own yet ;) .. so the 75G is still going to be the perfect size "renters" tank for me. Big enough to enjoy and small enough to move without too much hassle. Plus I get to play "bonsai" with my corals and trim them regularly which is a win-win for everyone.. free corals spread around and keeps my tank looking clean. Many corals still have a lot of growing to do still, but others like my green slimer and hyacinth birdsnest it is now just about trimming to keep it where I want it. I can enjoy this tank for many more years before I feel the itch to upgrade again. Remember, I started with my 29G as a SW tank back in 1995, took 13 years before I finally upgraded from that tank to the one I have now, and I still run the 29G in my bedroom. I am no "Jflip". LOL.

Good thinking Ace, I have been in "big tank mode" lately, since I gave my cabinet builder the master plan for the 225g. It should be wet in 4-5 weeks. I have everything to make the transfer and cant wait. I will do the tubes shortly after I set it up....If you need help moving lmk, I have a truck and trailer.

ya ace rocks bro! he is hooking me up for shipping cost!! nicest reefer ever IMO

Finally got your box today.. hahahaha.. did you think I was going to be mailing Puffer fish back to you in some of those bags.. lol.. they are HUGE. Also, a roll of packing tape and a sharpie? Sorry, got a good giggle out of that. I have tape and was going to write on the bags with a sharpie what the corals were.. you didn't need to send those along.. but I will put them back in the box to get returned with the corals. If your LFS gave you all those bags for free be sure to thank them again.. having worked at a LFS I know how much those bags actually cost, and the big ones actually cost quite a bit .. enough to make the LFS I worked at be very strict about using bigger bags than were required due to costs.

I will take a picture this weekend of the corals I will put in the box for you so you get an idea what is coming to you on Tuesday. Just a rough estimate, but I am betting there will be over $300 in "LFS" prices in corals in the box for you. :D

Oh ya.. 2 things.. temp and drip acclimate the corals to your tank specs. You can do this over the course of an hour or more if you really wanted to but I usually do 15mins myself. This way you get the coral adjusted to your water properties slowly. Say if my Alk is down to like 6 and yours is at 12 that is a big difference and will shock the coral. So how I do it is put the corals all in a big container/tupperware making sure they don't touch each other using water from the bags. Then I use a turkey baster and once a minute take a sqeeze of water out of my tank and slowly pour it in the container with the corals... I do it once every minute for 15 minutes.

Second thing, if you don't have any right now, I would try and pick up some type of Coral dip before tuesday. Revive is the most popular, but there are others that also work. This is to help heal any damage that may have happened in shipping as well as remove any nasty hitchhikers. I really don't think I have any bad bugs in my tank from what I see, but it is always "best practice" to at the very minimum dip any new corals before you put them in the tank. Ideally you would QT them in a seperate tank .. but I don't even do that. I do dip in Revive and MediCoral myself.

Oh ya, and be warned, I am going to put several large pieces of Green slimer in there for you since there is room. I need to get rid of some big pieces and "Tag", your it. Since you will have a frag tank going also you can just cut up the pieces if you want and make a bunch of frags to give out to people in your area just like I did in mine. ;)
