ummm...was this whole poll about Operating systems (Windows, Apple, LINUX) or is it about the actual computer (Dell, HP, APPLE, XBOX, Cuisinart, etc....)? Anyhoo, I suport a variety of systems, and all of them will have a problem or two at any time - Whether it's constant patches (Microsoft), overheating batteries, bad tower power supplies, failing video chip sets (Apple), or bad installations or non-existant drivers (Linux). I've learned that taking care of your computer is the best thing you can do to prolong its life...also, having a good warranty and backing up helps a whole freaking lot!!! :)

Oh, and for the record, a LINUX live disk is my best tool for retrieving data from dead PC and Apple computers ;)
Cheers!

No... Just that their soul crushing lack of social skills coupled with a complete lack of interest from the opposite sex leaves them a lot of free time to ____ around with their girlfriends *cough* i mean computers.

The stereotypical "movie geek" isn't real. Do you have any friends that use pc's? lol

If you honestly don't think it's necessary to learn computer skills in this day in age then I don't know why you are arguing any point. IMHO, one should know how to use all operating systems. When one learns this, he/she will use linux for hacking/maintenance/possibly general operations, mac for graphic design and flash, and windows for gaming and all basic tasks.

Pc all the way here... You can do anything on a pc, and when you have a problem, you dont need to replace the whole computer and you can easily upgrade it, not to mention how cheap pc's are.

Absolutely, PC!

To make a comparison between a mac and a pc is like comparing a brick to a Ferrari. Now, the brick is darn near error/problem free, and darn easy to operate! But, you can harm yourself with the brick, you can drop it on your foot (but then, same for the mac, you could injure your foot with it too!)--the Ferrari is not, indeed, it gives you the power to kill yourself and total the Ferrari! VERY darn easily too! Kinda makes you wonder why people seem to prefer the Ferrari over the brick, huh?

The mac is for computer users, people who want to know nothing about hardware or the real operation behind the scenes, and wish to pay very high/exorbitant prices for hardware/software. The mac hardware and software is designed to "keep the user in a straight-jacket", like in a nutter ward, they simply don't have the tools or means to be any danger, to themselves and/or others.

The pc is a totally different animal. It says, "You know what you are doing. You are God here. Your very touch is my command!"; therefore, if you don't know how to operate a computer (like McPeople), you can crash and have to reinstall the whole OS, loose your files, allow viruses to enter your computer, etc. The mac never even lets you know that there is virus protection software on the computer, it thinks you too stoopid to be able to use it if it was! Therefore, the machine (mac) "mothers you" and keeps you safe from strangers, warm, all-fuzzy-feeling and virus free.

In computer engineering, we simply don't have mac's. There is a small group of engineers who have "gone to the dark side" and actually write software for mac's--they have no respect for their users. They consider them buffoons and have to devote most all their programming efforts into bullet-proofing the software so McIdiots can't crash it or give away all their secrets on their computer!

The two platforms simply employ two very different forms of philosophy, one considers users to be nothing more than outright idiots--the other views users as GODS!

You have been warned--in my humble opinion. <grin>

PCs SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(just wanted to stoke the fire a bit ;) )

I like you; you got spirit!

Did I mention that most "non-apple software engineers" develop mac software on PCs running mac os emulation software? <grin>

At least, in the shops I have worked in, that is how it has been done. :jaw-dropping:

one of windows major ad campaigns was edited by a firm that only uses macs...MS quickly pulled the ads and lost millions

Well, that is rather unfair, protectionist/rude, costly, etc.

Krist, that is a good use for a mac, constructing/editing ads for TV and radio.

Rather bizarre that they should resist delegating such mundane tasks to a mac. I mean, logic would lead one to believe it would take that load off the PCs, freeing them up for more important tasks, like writing whole operating systems, mathematical analysis's, complicated statistical computations, deconstructing the DNA/RNA sequencing, etc!

But then, I am willing to entertain the idea that microsoft has gotten down to hiring people for political reasons (and getting favors from politicians), nepotism, union pressures, etc. The best don't always rise on the corporate ladder, there are masses of brainless idiots who attempt to block them, financial gains force such tactics in hostile bids for a well paying position(s!)

And, IQ frequently looses out to "social engineering", "networking" and the old adage, "It isn't what you know, it's who you know!"
