my female con has a yellow tail and my male doesnt

well the babies are lookin a lil diff as in colors to teh parents so thats good and i think its time to do some tank maintance as i see greenish to brownish algea on the glass and im not gunna have to go threw green water again grrrr lol

It depends which gene is dominant. For example, the yellow tail will be either dominant or recessive. If it is dominant all or almost all of the fry will have it. If it is recessive almost none of the fry will have it, but the gene is likely to turn up in the next generation. As for the irredescent sheen, males will generally be more colourful then the females so they probably have similar genetics in that area.

Just to point out, for convicts, the females are going to present more color than the males.

well my male con just died a lil bit ago i found him in my filter tubes so ya i got him out and he just had flared out gills and swimed up then slamed into the gravel so RIP son!!

****, something must have been seriously wrong with your tank conditions for a convict to die. They are perhaps the most prolific cichlid ever. Ive seen them live in the most horrible of tank conditions. He must have had a disease.

True that. A friend gave me her surviving male con--I named him Lazarus. I can't even go back to thinking what that tank looked like . . . .
