I just bought a 38 gallon tank and could use a little advice on the filter.
The tank came with an Aqueon filter (not sure what the model is - it doesn't even say on the filter itself!). My friend told me that the filter was terrible and that I needed one with a Biowheel - so I went out and purchased a Marineland Penguin 200.
The problem now is the noise! The motor isn't loud at all, but the splashing of the water is very, very loud! Also, when the cover of the tank is off water starts splashing out of the tank from the filter.
I added water to the tank to try to quiet it down but to no avail - it is just as loud, and the water level is as high as it will go. I noticed that if I stop the biowheel from spinning the sound significantly decreases.
Does anyone know of any decent filters that are quieter? Could the Aqueon filter (which was much quieter) not be as bad as suggested?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
