LBF- Here is an interesting link from the Social Security Administration about a "Ticket to Work" program for transitional training for recipients of SSI offered by the Federal Government. Don't know if this applies to you, but it looks like the gist is that it provides training for people on SSI, allowing them to keep their benefits while receiving vocational training based on their own ability to work.

Not advocating this-- just saying it might provide some helpful, constructive information.
It is open to all persons on disability, not just SSI. SSI, SSA, and SSD (I am on SSD). It seems to be a good program and I like how it is structured. I would like to participate in it but general health won't allow it at this time. I received a "Ticket to work" and found some employers. My recent health didn't allow me to participate
As far as the military goes, your eyes are too bad as is your learning disability, to qualify for any branch. I doubt you could pass the AVSFAB. It is a lengthy general knowledge test covering almost every subject you can think of. Along with passing the AVSFAB you MUST have a high school diploma or a GED Certificate.
