Mafia 61: The Gunslinger - Game Thread

Thanks for the compliments Ice but I consider you the most dangerous player in the game. Im not surprised you were chosen since odds are you will be dead within the 48 hours.

But I do think that shooting the lowest poster is a valid action if nothing better shows up.

You would be dead and then I would be stuck in the same situation. Since you listed me as a someone you believe to be a good player I would hope that you wouldnt take the chance of killing yourself then handing the reigns over to me...although the odds are better I would likely choose another innocent and die myself. Not a good move for the town.

Hmmm...Lab seems pretty confident that having the gunslinger role would be fun while everyone else seems to abhor the role. Is this because you know that you'll never be given the chance???

Well Jpap, in this game and this format, I'd have to say I agree with you, Ice was their (your) best choice.

I also agree with Ice, Kash or you would have been a better choice. My top three would be Kash, Jpap, Ice, in that order, unless of course Jpap and Kash were on my team.

If Ice shot me now, I'd shoot you or Kash next. Wanna know why? Ask.

This is contradictory to my previous post but Im starting to think that Ice was not a good choice. He is a dangerous player but I remember a few games back (52 maybe?) when we (the team was me, JL, Rich and Agass) kept him around because he was doing more harm than good as a townie. He said it himself, he is better evil and I tend to agree. When kept around as innocent he tends to shoot himself in the foot and take down a few townies with him. I wonder if those who chose wanted him gone because they have only seen him when he is more cautious and "helpful" as an evil...that would first bring me to his teammates from last game...Lab, Zaffy, JB...regardless of what you may have already posted, would you or wouldn't you choose Ice to be the first gunslinger and why?

Ok, I'll bite...why?

Annie...I'm very curious as to why you see me and Kash are better choices than Ice. As of now I see Ice as a wash, a dangerous player but has a reputation of being bad when good. So I wouldn't choose him first, but not scratch him off the list entirely. Since choosing the gunslinger is basically the equivalent of hitting someone just w/o it being 100%, I would likely choose a middle of the road player just for the sake of it. Theres a chance they will die and for the most part it could be considered random since its not a high profile player. My first choices would be along the lines of Zaffy or Dawg or Rich. All are skilled players but arent overly talkative. Keeping Ice or Kashta around would help me personally fit in more since they usually post more like I tend to do. Getting rid of low posters is sort of unproductive seeing as they are not a threat. I dont think picking Ice was the smartest idea, so maybe picking me or Kashta would be considered better (not the best though), but why do you think that?

It's a hard question to answer pappy. I can say for certain that he would have been a top choice. But he's not the only one to consider. I would also have looked at You, Kash, Dawg and Z. Without knowing the make up of the Mafia team, it's hard to know what players are out of the draft... so to speak. I can't say I've played enough games with him to really know his "style" when innocent vs. evil, but I know that he's experienced and intelligent. That makes him a high interest for the first gunslinger.

The decision would also depend on who the other members of the team proposed. If someone made a strong enough case, I would have been able to get behind anyone on the list I mentioned above. HTH

PS... thanks for this question. It's nice to get some validation for this line of thinking.

On the other hand I can also see this question and your explanation as distancing. Not from a player, but from the decision to pick Ice first. It would be really convenient for the mafia to pick some one, of whom they could later say "I never would have picked that person."

I do see reasoning behind choosing Ice (as noted by my first post), but I would not put him as high personally. I understand that the makeup of the team is another factor. If it were me and three people who were considered to be quiet, I might agree with taking out a more aggressive player in order to allow the majority of the team to slide by. If I were to be selfish though, I would want the talkative players around.

It's easy for anyone to spout off a list of people they would choose with whatever contrived reasoning they can think of...maybe this issue muddles things up rather than the opposite. This is going to be hard since we are going basically by chance. Even if Ice chooses mafia, theres virtually no trail and we're back to square one.

Though I think it would be fun to be gunslinger, and if you shoot me I get to be in that role, I would hate to lose an innocent (Vanilla Ice). It would be a wasted turn.

I don't necessarily agree with this reasoning Jpap. Cases are made in this game all the time by going back and pulling posts. Not only by voting patterns. I think the more talking that goes on, the more we learn about each player's motives.

For example... I think it's interesting that You and Lab (see above quotes) seem to refer to Ice's time as Sheriff as pointless if he doesn't hit a mafia. this is silly. As stated above, the more time goes by, the more we'll learn. I know this is my perspective, and I know I'm an innocent. Which makes me wonder what motives would lead one to think of this time as unimportant, regardless of the outcome of Ice's shot?

It's interesting to me that you both would post such a sentiment that seems so contrary to how I see things.

And I should add that I'm really looking at Lab now. Obviously we don't know anything, but I know Lab is good at laying low and it fits with the "me Lab or Zaffy are evil" scenario. So I'll be looking that way.

I think you're confusing what me an Lab said.

Lab said if an innocent is hit its a wasted turn. I guess you could say that, since we would be trading Ice for another known innocent, but we're still down a townie.

I said even if a mafia is hit, we still wont know much more. I see the format of this game to be less committal than a voting scenario. We have to assume that people are eventually going to start pointing fingers, but the only problem is what is holding the mafia back from not making accusations? All of the innocents will have to start doing some serious digging otherwise the mafia will skid by more than usual if given the space to hide. There's little accountability compared to a vote set in stone. Worst case scenario, Ice hits the person with the least amount of posts. That person is mafia. Great, now what? It's not like we can look at votes and again, unless every single innocent is truly kicking bushes and suggesting hit victims, there's no way to link anyone else. Hence why I said we may be in essentially the same position. I'm just not optimistic about our chances. We've seen a downturn in overall participation and that only helps the evils in my eyes. I do agree that cases will be made and posts will be looked at, as always, but that can only go so far. At least a vote got the people who fail to do such things on a day-to-day basis. It's going to be hard to do anything this early in the game, but its important to get past the usual Day 1 mindset.
