I have been reading all about canister filters only to confuse myself more and more the more I read. I make up my mind on one, then read someone who has an issue with that particular one and it sends me right back to square one...

Here is my plan....

I plan on getting a 60 gallon glass aquarium which will be the new home to different African Cichlids (gotta read more about those too...). I will have no live plants in that tank. I would rather over filter than bying the filter for the exact amount of gallons of the tank.

I know this question gets asked all the time, but please reassure a newbie :help:

Thanks everyone...

Isnt this a 60 gallon tank? The Eheim should be a good choice for that size. All canisters have their pros and cons but I like my Eheim.

Just cause they are good doesn't mean I'd trust just to a 150g tank. We're talking a turnover rate of less than twice, thats rather slow and just inviting algae issues. Not to mention even with a PH, its gonna make a rather ineffective filtration.

He's getting a 60g a 2217 would be perfect

Thank you so much for your replies. I guess my dilemma was between the 2217 and the c-160... Can I put my own media in the 2217? I am leaning towards that one, I noticed the price at kensfish is very reasonable.

mott.... I am female! lol...

The tank I am getting is a 60 gallon.... unless I get convinced by all of you to go up to a 75 ;)

A 2217 is probubly the best of the lowest price Eheim's. But its the early model with no baskets to separate messy media at cleaning time :yuck:. The Magnum 350 would keep a 60 tank sparkling clean with dual choice between superior circumference tech filtering and micron reusable cartridge water polishing Oooooo-yeah. :woot:

But what do i know Im like a 200 pound gorilla in the room LOL.

No wonder I can't make up my mind!!! LOL... The no basket issue is definetely a turn off... Back to the drawing board, so now it is between the Magnum 350 and the marineland c series....

Question about the magnum 350: From the pictures, all I see inside of it is some big bio wheel?? Can I put carbon in there? Or anything else?

So thankful for your answers. I am living, breathing filters right now! My kids definitely think I have lost it...
