CONFESSION! I FLUSH FISH!

be the 5 or 6 yr old who accidentally kicks the cross over revealing fluffy the families cat who's been sitting there long enough to be hosting a worm colony and then tell me it's not morbid...

Morbid, maybe, but the sort of thing that can become an excited talking point for some time.

Not if you actually bury them and not just throw an inch of dirt over them. Besides, most kids I've known have seen roadkill and the baby birds that fall out of nests in the spring. It's a part of life and you can't shelter them from it forever.

Actually I've reconsidered and in the future I'm going to take the chainsaw to any sick fishies in my tank.

Somehow this is an immensely less disturbing prospect than you whacking your fish off before sending them down the toilet...

JUST DO WHAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU AND LET THE OTHER PERSON DO THE SAME!

:thm: exactly what i was illustrating!

Do both !!!!!!!! Viking Funerals for Fishies ! AWESOMENESS !!

i'm in on that too. there's a river near enough.

takes the pressure off rb. he was getting a bad rap imo.

so 2 feet wasn't enough... guess i should call mom and let her know now that she's in her 60's with a bad back that she needs to dig deeper. thank you soooo much. she'll appreciate the words of wisdom for sure. :(

btw... when you live <100 yards from the river buried things tend to rise slowly over time, degrade faster and can also completely lift 2' of dirt to come unearthed overnight during a bad storm.

roadkill is not your family's beloved pet and therefore is just something to play with for a child. fluffy disturbed and her burial box falling open because the string that held it together was degraded is a whole different picture. especially after watching mom cry in her bedroom from self incurred feelings of guilt for 2 days over said pet. :headshake2:

:omg: Did this actually happen to you?! Such a realistic story if not...

Have you ever read Jessica Mitford? You definitely should!

I agree with you about funeral services (for people) but it's the kind of thing I never bring up since it is offensive to so many. I hope so called "eco funerals" catch on in the U.S., but I think it will be a long time before this country warms up to cardboard coffins.

We have an almost healthy relationship with natural decomposition - look at all the people saying they compost their fish - except when it comes to us. For some reason, worms and microbes returning our bodies to the earth really rubs us the wrong way.

I don't know, I got over it. I grew up knowing exactly where each pet was buried. We wrapped them in an old towel. I knew what death was and what came along with it.

Sounds like an incident that occurred has bothered you for quite some time. Doesn't mean the same incident would have the same effect on everyone else. If it's that big of a deal, have your pets cremated and move on.

I guess we have all had one or two of those things happen to us sometime in our lives especially fish death. More importantly though I think if your not finding out why and correcting the cause there is no point in keeping fish, and in fact the leading cause of people quitting in not taking the time to find out the big WHY?

Sure I have flushed my dead fish down the toilet but not before dissection to look for obvious signs of mortality. I also don't QT becasue Iv managed an acceptable ratio disease spread about 1%.

I also look for the apex between the cheapest, most good looking, healthiest fish I can find, again the apex between money saved and ornamentation has been great.

To me making excuses to do things in excess is just as bad when you don't need to, especially if it affects people which are far more important.

yuppers... talking from experience.

of course names have been altered to protect the innocent.

not much of a fiction reader... don't enjoy reading except to understand something i'm involved in already. i like to understand beyond the necessities somewhat. :y220d:

the weird thing is seeing someones skin peeled off half their body from a car accident or my old dog ripping them to shreds for intruding in his territory didn't really bother me. the cat however was traumatizing. needless to say at this point i have no issues decapitating a dieing animal to relieve it's suffering. it's faster than bringing it to the vet...
