I've been looking for some kind of bottom-dweller for my 10 gallon. The norman's lampeyes are very much top dwellers, and the licorice gourami kinda cruises around everywhere.

I found a good price on a pair of peacock gudgeons on aquabid (haven't seen any around here). I like the idea of a pair of fish- it would balance the big school of small fish, I think.

I have pretty soft water, which the lampeyes and gourami both like. Would the peacock's be ok, you think? As far as I can tell, the gourami is pretty peaceful, if anything I'd be more worried about him getting chased by the male peacock, but he's very small and there are lots of hiding places.

I know I'd need to get a cave, anything else special? I keep frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp on hand, so I think I'd be ok as far as feeding. Do you think they'd spawn in a community tank?

I haven't kept them but that sounds like a gorgeous little setup!

Thanks. :) I wanted to do "different" fish in this tank- nothing super high maintenance, but not the normal tetras or livebearers or whatever.

Ya I seen that on aquabid a couple days ago. I been wanting a pair thats the only place I could find a pair they have them on liveaquaria but I don't think you could get a pair, but idk. I seen they have 6 for $30 on there too. How are you getting it shipped. Express?

Peacock gudgeons are very nice, although I haven't had any luck with them. They can be difficult to feed. I had the best luck using a pipette, which they quickly learned meant 'food'. The issue I found with feeding was that they take their time to eat, and the other tankmates will eat all the food before they get enough. Also, they seem to have bad eyesight, and don't see the food unless it is moving AND near them. By using a pipette, you can avoid this issue.
If you want them to breed, you'll need to put in a 4 inch piece of 1/4 inch pvc pipe. The male will make this his home, and the female will lay eggs on the inside walls. He will then kick the female out, and fan the eggs till they hatch.
It's hard to say if the fry will survive in a community tank. If you put in lots of moss and other plants to help them avoid the mouths of the lampeyes and gourami, a few should survive. You'll also want to get some microworms or golden pearls to feed the babies.

I've always done priority with fish in the past, but since a pair is harder to come by I might spring for express. the seller has a 98% rating- almost 1000 positives and only 10 negative, which is good.

I use a baster to feed shy fish, I would guess that would work for them. I use it for the gourami, too, and my DP. The lampeyes gobble up food, but don't tend to venture down from the surface much to get it.

I could pull the pvc and try to raise the eggs, right? The tank is planted. The lampeyes have tiny mouths, I doubt they could even eat fry, but I'm sure the gourami would try.

I have powdered fry food, do you think babies would eat that? If not, I'd wait and see if they even spawn before I'd buy anything else.

Bought the pair. :D

Any advice still appreciated!

That's great. Good luck. I never had but I know that there are threads on here that people have them. I'm sure if you have any questions they will help or bio seems to know.
