Help Brand new!!

Do you think it will be a good light?

You will be able to grow mostly lower light demand corals (softies and LPS) with no problem but if you think you will want more light demanding corals you might want to go with a 4 bulb T5. The other advantage to a 4 bulb is you can add more spectrums of light to your tank to accent the colors of your corals.

I have read a few posts on that light and I did see some concerns with the ballast going out but it may have just been a few bad units. Not sure what your budget is and what you hink you might want to keep but I would advise you to get the best light you can afford so you don't waste money buying something twice.

You can get a decent 4 bulb fixture for not much more if you are interested. The Current Nova Extreme (the NE Pro is quite a bit more $)and Current Sundial are good lights and not as high priced as the Tek or other higher end T5 fixtures.

Again, that fixture will work its just what you want to do with it. Hope this helps

For my budget I cant really do much more :( Im already so far above the limit haha And i have no live rock yet boo :(

You think my setup will be better than a aquacube? It seems like a decent one and if you think I would be better I can fill the badboy tonight. Possibly run and get live rock tom and sand.

Then the hard part comes creating balance before the cleanup crew arrives then a little after that the fishies yay~!

The aquacube just seems like it has everything in it. Where im scared because I have no protein skimmer (just was going to do a small water change every 3 days or one little bigger one once a week) where the aquacube I buy the cheap skimmer and im golden and can grow pretty much everything. But then im at a lose for the stand. Grr i never make up my mind haha

I really like the nice coraline that grows the purple so beautiful you think my bigger tank will fill with it if I do it right? I see alot of aquacubes full of it why i think there neat. Sorry fish to I missed your post you think Im better with my set up though? im glad to hear it hehe

The biocubes are very popular for a reason, they are meant to be used right out of the box. Based on what your saying, I think you might be better off going with the cube. Besides it sounds like you want some convincing so I'll bite...go get you a cube :)! I did like mine, it just got too small too quick but I only had a 12 gallon. I assume you are looking at the 29 gallon version?

Keep in mind that the lights in the cube are power compacts and not T5's. You will still be able to have some beautiful corals. I would recommend that you get at least one powerhead to go with your cubes return pump. A Koralia Nano or Koralia 1 would work out well.

There are several fairly cheap and inexpesive mods you can do o those cubes that will improve the look and health of your system. If you go this route and you want some ideas just say so.

Coraline will grow in all tanks assuming there is good water and sufficeint lighting. One day you will wish you didn't have to scrape it off every surface of your tank :). You're right though it is beautiful.

Good luck!

Cubes are pretty cool. If u are getting the 29 gal then u should be fine. I was thinking that u had already gotten the system for your tank, if not then "Use the Cube" lol.

Im so sorry guys that Im all over the place just scared its a new thing for me and
I guess I really want to do it right, rather then set it up and bam surprise Im missing a bunch of stuff you know :( I have the tank, the stealth heater, the t5 light, emperor 280 biofilter. Guy at the store said I would okay without the protein skimmer or canister thing long as I did a weekly change on it. I actually think the bicube might run me another 150 dollars more than what I paid seems like in canada there crazy expensive. A biocube here is 469.00 vs 299.00 us which is like 315 canadian. kills me :( haha

Big als us site shows it 299.00 us
Big als canada shows it 469.00 cad

Plus all the salt, testers etc have all that stuff basically missing sand, live rock. cleanup crew and fishies :)

Don't worry about it. Both tanks will work fine. Take some comfort in the fact that pretty much everyone goes through what you're going through. The best thing you can do is research. Your LFS is working with you so why not take some time to read up on the two options you are considering. The big picture is that the cube sort of loks you in but you have a lot of convenience built right in. The piece meal setup, while less convenient, allows you to pick and choose or change equipment as you go. Take a moment to check this out this link on biocubes. I really think it will help you to see what these systems can do out of the box and what mods others have done.

Oh and your LFS is correct a skimmer is not required. Weekly WCs will be sufficient as long as you keep up with them. The skimmer would just make things a bit more stable and give you some insurance. However, if you end up wanting corals that require pristine water you might want a skimmer and I would recommend the Tunze 9002 skimmer for the cube.

Hmm see that got me thinking I can make changes which is so nice and the gf ( which I think I have drivin absolutley nuts) love the current tank and it has a stand. So maybe I should rock with what I got and go from there. Its very unique to which is kinda cool as well.

Shes had enough of the store, she likes it but not as much as me haha
Thanks for the help to and listening to me going back and fourth :P
Would you stick with what I have and see how it goes? The light with the open tank will be okay hey. I know it says for covered tanks only which worries me.
