I have two anubia plants that are attached to a piece of driftwood. I ran into a situation about a month and a half ago where I developed a large amount of staghorn algae. Unfortunately it completely dominated my two anubia plants. I've since gotten control of the algae but it really destroyed a lot the leaves on the anubias. I snipped off the affected leaves hoping to get some new ones to grow back in their place. I've got excellent growth on the ends of the rhizome, but I don't see any new sprouts along the mid section of the rhizome where the old leaves were snipped off. Will new leaves not grow there? Also, what's the best way to trim down stem plants? I have a lloydelia that I bought just under two weeks ago and it's already grown 4-5 inches. I'm affraid it will be out of the tank in another 3-4 weeks.

Thanks for your help!

I divided the rhizome on a large anubias nana, trimming off excess leaves here and there. It took a few weeks, but new leaves have started to grow. This is with the help of ferts & diy co2, may take longer without.

For stem plants there are two ways... if you like the look of the plant tops, pull out the stem and cut the bottom - replant the tops. You can also just leave the plants in and trim the tops - a lot of plants will branch out and you'll get two stalks for a fuller look. I've done both with my anacharis with nice results.

Trim the top of the stems and replant them. The original stem will sprout new growth and the cutting will do the same, plus new roots from the bottom.

Thanks for the replies. I thought that was how I could trim stem plants, but wanted to make sure first. As far as the anubias go, I guess I'll wait and see if anything sprouts. After a few weeks, if nothing happens, is it ok to cut the rhizome and remove the half of the plant that has no leaves or should I just leave it?
