Problem with Ebay buyer

As a buyer, I'm happy that eBay has all these stringent rules to protect the buyer (but in cases like these, it does screw over the seller). I will never buy from Aquabid again. The seller that I dealt with did refund my money for sending the wrong plant, but Aquabid's policy is basically a glorified Craigslist.

mistakes are mistakes and accentendat death goes with the business but if some were ok and some were not it wasn't the shippers fault,.

but there are those the scam this way for a living and stick it to people just to get away with everything they can and it sounds like this is the case here,..

Thanks for the tip. I think eBay's buyer protection policies are long overdue. I'm not saying this is the case here, but in general too many of the sellers adopted an almost adversarial attitude toward customers, simply because they got burned once or twice. As someone who had a brick & mortar (and all the overhead and bad debt that entails) I don't think they appreciate how easy they have it. eBay's pro-consumer stance is necessary and will benefit buyers AND sellers with increased customers.

Think of it this way, if you never get burned you're doing something wrong. Maybe your policies are too strict, your reputation is bad, and/or you don't have many customers. It's expected, there's even a line for it on your income tax form. Then again, maybe another advantage to having an online store is less scrutiny. :grinyes:

I agree with the PP who said, basically, tell him to pound sand !! So they ban you from e-bay, big deal. They can not legally touch your bank account thru paypal. He will file a dispute with paypal, and the dispute will stay open ended for a set amount of time. Paypal will say you should send this bum xxx amount of dollars and I would just ignore it. I have dealt with paypal for 15 years, but I don't deal on e-bay any more just because of what has previously been said. Good luck. And let's remember, hopefully we're not talking mega dollars here ! Tell him to get a life (and feel free to quote me on that !)

This one scumball is mulm out the drain; you just have to get past it. Believe me, the $ isn't worth the mental headache.

If you're going to be selling over the internet, I would suggest that:

Before you put up a listing, have one or more links to independent pages that provide care and feeding instructions; have the links in your offer. (I mean, really, a cooler pack even if it did get to 65 F is a little weak.)

Clarify your DOA policy as suggested above.

Always print out an AccuWeather copy of the weather prediction for the week for the buyer's ZIP code before you ship animals. If you have a similar issue with weather after the fact, you can get unarguable AccuWeather or US gov't (Dept of Commerce I think -- maybe FAA) numbers for high, low, precip, etc. for every day in his area code. (You can get it hourly but I think that's a subscription service from AccuWeather, and 6 - 12 months after the fact for the Feds.) Practice this so you don't have to learn under pressure.

Nil desperandum. As you've said, the vast majority of people actually try to be decent folks most of the time.

Apparently there was a buyers protection, im not very familiar with, and ebay paid for the auction:)

I think the fact that I had just had a baby is in part why it upset me so, and it really makes me sad to hear the loss of my precious inverts. The change in weather makes it hard to ship this time of year

No I don't see it as fair. Did you have in the post that any dead arrivals had to be photographed in the bag w/in xx amount of time? If not ,you might want to consider something along those lines to help in any future issues that may arise.

You MUST include all of your terms in the auction; otherwise, eBay will nail the seller in a dispute and side with the buyer's claims, which don't have to be backed by any proof. Also, you MUST use eBay correspondence email system with the buyer, otherwise, ebay will not listen to your claims.

Once, I lost 30+ bucks once selling an item on eBay because the buyer decided he didn't want the item and opened a dispute. We had presonal email correspondences, but that was thrown out the windows, and I ended up refunding everything including shipping, and I was not refunded the eBay and Paypal fees. At the end, I learned my lesson, and I have not sold anything on eBay from then on.
