Sounds like a good plan, or try posting an ad here on AC to see if there is anyone that might take him....not sure what the future holds with that but it's worth a shot I suppose. I think a betta would be great for your dorm=]

For female bettas be sure there is caves and hiding places. 4 females not 2 they will fight to the death. Put them in all at the same time so they can establish territory amongst the caves and hiding place. Floating plants are most welcomed. Have at least 2 - 1 gal ready in case there is trouble. I have 8 in a 55 gal for a year now they stay together amongst the floating plants and never get in tiffs. Actually I have 2 that sleep together on a big leaf near the surface. You just can't tell with females some good others worse than males. LOL

My friends boyfriend has a lake where I can release him... And the pond on campus has koi and goldfish even carp and ducks and turtles ...

I think I'm gonna release him in the lake ... But with him being so tine I'm not sure
And are you sure 10 gallons is enough room for 4 bettas?

I have only one cave and am planning on getting 4 nice size plants ...

Are there any other recommendations?

No problem about the rambling.Like I said Caves at least 1 per fish or you may have a fight to the death. Do not release any breed fish into a lake, stream or river he may be small now but he will grow quickly. A hand made pond that already has koi okay. If he destroys any native habitat it can totally alter or kill a complete eco system. Try floating plants with the bettas they love them

Ok... I'll find a place for the little one :)

And I have to find three more caves ...

Are there any cheap caves? I'm short on money I'm a college student lol

Is this a private, artificial lake already stocked with goldfish?

Coconut shells, slate, rocks,..... I've even mixed GE silicone I (NOT II) and gravel into cave shapes let it cure and bingo. I use pea gravel from lowes to make caves and decorations. Even a PVC pipe can be a cave. You may find something like that in a garage somewhere for free. Use your imagination and a lot of decorations can be easy DIY projects.
