Thailand Giant Shrimp?

Maybe it's the Malaysian prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii? A quick Google turned up a bunch of hits. Looks like they're commonly aquacultured, and have a larval stage that needs brackish water.

The last two links are aquaculture places that have them for sale.

There are also lots of videos on YouTube. This one is cool!

There are several videos of them in aquaria on YouTube, so they are kept as pets. You can keep anything as a pet. As long as you have a big enough tank, of course.

Anybody keep these things as pets? or are the just aquacultured for food?
I have a few in one of my tanks, but they're all still small. The hatchery where I used to work raises some every summer and a friend that works there gave me around a dozen little ones to use as feeders. I split them between my 2 turtle tanks and my two aquariums. My oscar, sev, and bahia red had them gone instantly, and it took my turtles a week or two to catch all of them, but in my other tank my little Uaru of all the fish in there was the only one to eat one.

It's now been a month or so and they have doubled in size. There are at least 4 left and they are getting some really nice color on them. For now, they are pretty entertaining and keep the sand pretty clean, but when they start any real problems, they either get their own tank, or they're turtle food
