Good morning fellow fish keepers,
I was wondering if you ever used Jobe's fertilizer sticks for aquarium plants - root feeding. As I mentioned before, I live in a rather remote area with limited access to pet stores.
Thanks for UR help

I've used Jobe's palm fert. sticks for root feeding and it worked well.

What sort of dosing, Wes? How much per plant or square area--1 whole stick, half stick, quarter? iirc the Job's sticks are around 2 in long, maybe quarter inch diameter, right, sorta like fat matchsticks?

And how long were they good for, approximately? x number of weeks? Months?

I broke them into 1" lengths and, depending on the size of the plant and rate of growth, replaced them between 2 mo. and 4 mo.

thanks for the info Wesley! i'm going to pick some of these up soon, since my swordplants are angry at me lately, lol.

i've also seen plant fertilizer sticks in the dollar store. i don't recall them being "Jobes", but would they work as well?

I'd say they may work. Tom Barr or someone who knows more of the chemistry behind solid ferts may be able to say. The ratio of N:P:K should be 10:2:10 or as close to that as possible. Back when I tried the Jobe's spikes I had read the palm type was the correct ratio. My swords and crypts went completely nuts when I used them.

Unless it's your last choice, I'd not take the risk. With a name brand, such as Jobe's, you have an assurance that the package labeling is correct.
I've purchased several supposed name brand 'over runs' at dollar stores that turned out to be counterfeit knock offs.

My package of Jobe's palm and fern spikes was $2.29 for thirty spikes. I break them in to thirds and use each as I'd use any root tab.
