Hello im new here and im working on plans for a coustom 37gallon diamond shape aquarium and seeing as this is by far the largest acrylic tank ive ever worked with any ideas for constructing it and reinforcement would be great. the two sides that will be aginst the walls will be about 25" long the two short sides will be about 7" wide and the tank will be 18" tall im not compleatly sere what the measurement of the front plate will be but im hoping to make it 25" wide as well and adjust the short sides to make it fit. as best as i can figure the tank should be somewhere between 36 and 37 gallons when done.

Sounds interesting! Be sure to keep up up dated and take lots of pics!!! Sorry, I really can't give any advice or help on it but I look forward to watching your progress. What do you plan to stock..or is that still a thought in process??
How do you get the acrylic to stick together? I know with glass you use silicone...but I think I've read it doesn't work well with acrylic...course I could be wrong.

GOOD LUCK!

So your trying to make a bigger version of those little acrylic 1g tanks?
in a nut shell yes

the tank shouldnt be as much trouble as the stand i am trying to make for it.
to put the acrylic together i use a thin liquid pvc glue that drys clear in an aplicator bottle with a needle tip it basicly welds (melts) the acrylic together then use the silicone to seal it water tight.
the trouble im running into also is weather i should use 3/8" or 1/2" acrylic because normaly id use 3/8" for a 18" tall tank but because of the shape and size im not sure if i should go thicker

Did you know Perfecto makes a standard tank that shape with the long sides 22", that's 24" high and holds a nominal 44 gal?

I think your estimated vol is pretty close to actual vol. If your measurements are inside measurements, close to 42G tank with front panel being about 21-6/16". Extra problem solving for youngest child in 4th grade, lol!

I believe there is big difference in price b/n 3/8" and 1/2" acrylic???
For 37G Pentagon tank or there of, that is only 18" tall, I would assume 3/8" would do but should verify with acrylic mfr upon submitting your dwg and dimensions. Make sure to ask mfr of their authorized dealers to let them believe you are potential buyer of their products.

btw, Dont forget to ask for few tips on working with/glueing acrylics which can save you $ and perhaps elimnate the need for silicone which is one of the reasons for preferring acrylic tanks.

Good luck with project and looking forward to finished product.
