?Tanked?, a New TV Show for Aquarium Enthusiasts

My biggest complaint about the show is that it seems HORRIBLY staged! Having said that I can really enjoy the show for the tanks themselves. Guaranteed they overstock these tanks only for the tv show and then remove some of them afterward. Also, I doubt we see all of the plumbing and filtration. Diving into the details of filtration would bore the average audience. As for me, I want to see how they build the filtration and the plumbing. There is no way they would stay in business if the customers had fish dying all of the time. The company has been in business for a while now and just moved to a newer nicer location. They have a good reputation in Vegas. I bet they build insane filtration systems as well or, as I said remove some of the stock after the filming. Oh, and I did think the hydraulics on the ray tank was dumb. Hydraulics? Really? That kid must have more $ thanhe knows what to do with and NO knowledge of aquatics.

So we can collectivly agree that they are great at making tanks and horrible at stocking them then?

Pretty much. But I do have to wonder about some of it. How much of what is shown on the show is actual reality? It's reality TV, and tapping into the cast's collective stupidity, whether real or created, is a very important part of reality TV.

Here is a comment from someone with first hand experience with them.

These guys are from Las Vegas. I dealt with them when I lived there. First, I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw either of them. Their local stores were, for the most part, terrible. I also knew some of their past employees. Let's just say, they were not fired and did not have good things to say about them.

I donated a 75 gallon tank to my sons' school and they "lost" the glass tops. Wade promised to get me some and sent me All-Glass tops for an Oceanic tank. He never did remedy the situation. Something so cheap from a company so large.

They also had some issues with their glue a few years back that caused all sorts of seam separation issues.

Let's just say that I lived in Las Vegas and got my corner pentagon from James at Envision Acrylics. That should tell you something.

These guys have no interest whatsoever in the health of their livestock if what I have seen in their stores and in this show is any indication.

The fact that these guys make money from a show that misrepresents the hobby really is a sham. I can only hope that much of what they are doing is staged, but, on the flip side, they certainly aren't thinking about how this might impact potential wanna-be hobbiests.

Well now.... that's just sad. The level animal planet has fallen to get people to watch is dispicable... what happened to the Mutual of Omahal (probably spelled wrong) show? Big Cat Diary? The good shows? *sigh* stupid audience wanting stupid reality TV....

It isn't the shift to reality TV. It is the shift to human-based reality TV.
Pretty sure Meerkat Manor was the ultimate in reality TV (even if it was basically edited and set up for drama). I mean, what other reality show out there includes real war, assassination, and killing/eating of babies?

Jersey Shore?

Jersey Shore?

LOL! If only that were true.. but no.. we keep digressing Idiocracy style, now we have the MTV show "Ridiculousness" which is the real life version of "Ow My Balls!". Pretty soon we will be at the point of having 900 channels and it will be a choice between 2 shows "watching grass grow" and "watching paint dry" at the rate TV producers are going. I am so glad I cut off all cable/satellite TV 10 years ago when I noticed the rapid decline in quality educational programming on the various Discovery channels.

I'm sure there are plenty of educational programs. I mean, once you remove the UFO stuff...and the ancient aliens stuff...and the non-stop reruns of American Chopper...and...err...can't think of anything else they show anymore.

don't forget the ice road truckers and the swamp people show.... At least the science channel is still pretty good about showing on topic stuff .

Don't forget SciFi (I refuse to call it SyFy), and their wrestling coverage. You know, because wrestling is so science fictiony...
