can this hold my 20 gallon full of water?

It looks like a pretty sturdy piece of furniture to me, and the weight would be evenly distributed. But I'm no expert, I've had a 20 gallon on top of my TV for 2 years. ;)

Holy carp! Is it one of those big, old 70's cabinet style TV's?

I wish. ;) No, it's a big old heavy bigscreen that I never watch. The long one on the wall shelf is only a 12 gallon, but 36" long. It's on a solid oak shelf with heavy-duty brackets (600 lb test) driven into wall studs by 2.5 lag screws.

It's all you guy's fault that my family room now looks like this, too!

Sitting on something doesn't mean it can hold that amount of weight long term, just that it is capable of holding that weight for a short period of time. Too answer your question I would worry about the topper giving way before I would the actual stand.

+1

and it also depends on how u sit, unless ur the same exact weight, or balanced in the center perfectly, it doesn't help;)

i use a TV stand for all tanks bigger than 29Gs

i used my super old wooden dresser for over a year for my 20G, and it was super weak, and had bathtub type wood legs(4). u should be good

blame AC to solve ur problems..................:(
jk;)

I wouldn't trust it since it doesn't look like there is anything in the middle to hold the tank. Looks like the middle could easily crack with a 200lb tank.

Actually, most of the weight is distributed to the sides and mostly the ends. In theory, you can hold a glass tank up by cinder blocks on both ends with nothing in the middle and should be fine (don't try this with acrylic, you'll bust the bottom seam). It looks ok to me from the pics, but without seeing it in person, it's still kind of hard to say. I've had tanks on worse looking furniture, but only temporarily; like getting back from auction and needing 10 quarantine tanks but only having 9 set up. Throw one up on an end table for a few weeks.

I believe he has rocks added and it looks like they're mostly in the middle of the tank. All my tank stands have a middle part if I put a heavy tank on top since my dad, who is a carpenter, never builds them without one cuz he knows the top will break easily if no middle. I've actually seen some heavy tanks start bending in the middle (pet stores and other hobbyists' tanks) which is quite scary when the fish in the tank is worth hundreds of dollars.

the rocks go all the way accross the back not just in the middle

So the tank is going to weigh more than 200? Crazy to put that on your dresser. You might have some wet clothes.
