free fish from walmart :)

Every other thread I've seen where someone talks about getting a sick fish from the store they are congratulated and really pushed into doing it if only to give it a comfortable place to live out the rest of its days (I've seen that line specifically) so it's cool that you got them. I hope it works out. I think you'll definitely be fine with the ich infested fish. Make sure you get a full ID so you know you can properly house them =)

I personally would never take a free fish from walmart and I work there. The care that they give their fish is, well, none. They don't even feed them the vendors come bring the fish feed them blocks of weekend feeder style food they add aquarium salt and then leave. Once a week one employee will scrub down the front of the tanks. Every few days some one will scoop the dead fish and document what they can still identify. I used to try to help the fish and keep on to the department to take better care so they started dumping random chemicals in and killed all the fish in one day. So now all I can do is educate the customers as I try to intervene on as many fish sales as I can.
It is very sad and you may want to save them but all you did was make room for the vendor to shove more fish in... I commend you but I hang my head with concern.

if anything, i can get them better and bring them back to my LFS, not no chain store.. i know i am keeping one ( which is a elec blue ahli, maybe a hybrid ) for my main tank.

I've always figured Walmart was pretty care-less about the fish in the store but I never even imagined that they don't feed them... what a shame....

one i think is an otter point, other i think maybe a elec blue ahli hybrid ( or pure but stressed? ) one i think MAY be related to the livingstonii family other i dont know

So you bought sick fish...did you consider that the medications needed to treat these fish may cost more than the fish?

My thoughts exactly...doesn't seem like a great plan to save money considering the time and money it takes to adequately treat sick fish.

heat and salt method.. dont use chemicals to treat sickness and rbis, i am getting back and full into my hobby :)

So you've had just ich?

no, in my past i delt with more then ich, valvet/fungus/and quite a bit more.. and only do heat and salt method... i dont believe in using chemicals..
