Stocking Ideas for a Rainbowfish Tank? Thoughts?

Happened to find my red irian at LFS a couple years ago...he's probably about 3" and maybe 1.5" tall. I have only seen them at this LFS once, though. Aquabid has some on there, though I have no experience buying fish online at all.

The turquoise is probably my favorite fish in the tank. I bought the original at same LFS as the red irian at the same time and the colorings are really striking. Just bought a 2nd there a couple of weeks ago, coloring isn't as brilliant quite yet. That one is bigger and taller than the red irian. Turquoise were even found at local Petsmart the other day, so they're easier to find locally in my estimation...though the price you found compares favorably.

I haven't been able to get a crystal clear photo of the turquoise yet as my non-DSLR camera just can't keep up with how active it is. Took this great shot of the red irian though:

That looks nice!:) Yeah, I've heard the coloring improves after a month or two of purchase...I know my tank can definitely handle even 20+ rainbows all the size of adult red irians, but I'd just like to only have a few bigger ones:D
I am currently getting 6 red irians and 6 turquoise...how big are your turqs?
you think i should get 8?

To answer this question: I'd guess that the older turq is probably 4" long and 2" tall....the newer one is at least half that and isn't as colorful yet, nor does it like its picture taken. The newer one stays near the top of the tank in the shadows where I can't get a good shot of it.

The red irian is probably redder in my tank than my pic showed (kinda came up more orange), but still not nearly as brilliant as Greggz.

Here's a pic of the older turq:

Thanks Awesome! I actually like the blue on that better than the red:) Yea, so I am going with 6 of each plus 4 sterbai corys for a total of $65 or $70 shipped...seller has not responded yet...

did u just recently get that tank? planning on get some more rainbows?

have had the tank for about 5 yrs....neighbor in exact same floor plan was selling it before moving. 72G bowfront, sits in same place of our house as it did his. I am picking up a couple of amano shrimp for it tomorrow but close to 100% capacity according to aqadvisor, and even though my filtering is well above requirements, I don't want to push it. I will add another red irian if LFS gets any in but probably nothing more than that....I guess its the Noah's Ark of rainbows. 2 each of turquoise, threadfin, celebes, 1 red irian, 1 true boesemani and one that's being called a hybrid between boesemani/herbertaxelrodi...plus the other schooling type fish the rest of the family picked out.

LOVE the coloring! Gorgeous!:) How big is he? Are your red irians a bit mean or aggressive towards other rainbows in your tank(if u have some)?

That Irian is about 5.5", and pretty tall. I've never had any Rainbow be aggressive or mean, except to their own kind. And that is mostly flashing and a little chasing around.

Here is a pic of my largest Turquoise. He's about 4.5 to 5" long, and pretty tall.

And here is a pic of my oldest Boesemani. He's 7 years old, and I hope he hangs around for awhile.

haha awesome! just a friendly tip...try vals. i know they are a live plant and it looked like u have all fake but it will help fill in some of the empty middle space to make the tank look better:D it looks great already, it just looked a bit empty in the middle in the pics:)
