Little mini journal here. Ive set up a small 1 gallon pickle jar as a planted nonheated tank. Its lightly planted for now, the plants should grow overtime.

I may add an air pump to it in time, if I feel it needs it.

Inhabitants:
Ramshorn snails

Plants:
Salvinia
Hornwort

Substrate:
River pebbles
Fluval Clearmax filter media


I may add shrimp later on in if i feel like itll work out. For now, just the ramshorns.

I am starting it with 3 of my "green" ramshorns to see if they breed the same colour or if theyre just an aberration. As the hornwort grows, i plan on propagating it so the whole jar is a mass of hornwort.

Very nice ! Will you still be able to clean the glass if necessary? The snails are beautiful, but I don't think those are regular ramshorns or color morphs.

Yes, manually clean it if needed.

Arent they neat? I wanna see if they breed true.

In some light they look jade green. In sunlight they look more gold. In my 46g they look green.

I'm considering doing this too! But with shrimp! Cant wait to see how it works for you. Are you using an artificial light or just the sun?

Just sunlight.

I do plan on adding shrimp. But for now just the snails until it matures more.

Added more hornwort and fixed up the lid.

The lid was having the silicon dry. I cut a large window in it, then siliconed mesh cloth into it. Keeps curious cats out but allows sun in for the floaters.
