Sunlight, what kind of wood did you collect and how was the bark stripped? I just collected a couple of nice pieces and trying to figure out how to strip the wood faster, right now i'm just letting it rot off in a bucket of water.
Lol, that’s a bit of a long story... yes I have tried both (ghost shrimp, amanos, various neocaridina, boraras brigittae) but all have ended disastrously. I have always wanted this tank to sustain a breeding colony of some sort because I love boiling veggies and tossing them in and seeing tons of critters you otherwise wouldn’t see come out to eat. I did see either a tiny pond snail or a tiny bladder snail this morning, he probably came in on my new plants. I don’t mind. I’ve always wanted to have a walstad snail jar where I can toss in trimmings as well, but both of my jars are terrariums at the moment. I actually found an earth worm today on my hike and tossed him in one to join my millipede.Have you ever considered adding a school of micro rasboras or shrimp? I think both would look good in there.
I just do it manually, no soaking or anything because I don’t want the wood to get soft while I’m doing it (then there’s a higher chance of it breaking). Using a huge hunting knife didn’t work as good as I was hoping, so I used a super super tiny pocket knife and it worked way better. Fingernails also work nicely, but you’ll want a knife when you get to the knots and bends in the wood.Sunlight, what kind of wood did you collect and how was the bark stripped? So he eats the shrimp and kills the other fish? I think it's time for (eddie is it) to get some new friends! thenLol, that’s a bit of a long story... yes I have tried both (ghost shrimp, amanos, various neocaridina, boraras brigittae) but all have ended disastrously. Sorry, I’m a rambler. Short story, yes I have tried both but neither have worked out.
Reggie goes after shrimp yes. As for the rasboras, no, I accidentally killed $80 worth of them in quarantine... I wasn’t planning on quarantining them until they were floating in the bag and I saw ich. I panicked and set up a 3 gallon bucket (there were 10 half inch fish, but you still had to search to see them cause they were so extremely tiny) with an air stone and a bunch of fake plants and a heater. Everything was fine until I came home from church and had the awful realization that in my panicked frenzy I never put water conditioner. So all but 1 were already dead and the last one died a few days later. I had a bit of a mental breakdown at that point because I had killed 10 beautiful little fish that were already taken from their homes because they were wild caught. It kind of put me off of them because I am paranoid I’ll kill more.So he eats the shrimp and kills the other fish? I think it's time for (eddie is it) to get some new friends! then
Pics of the jars?
