What's your opinion on Glofish?

There is no dye injected into these fish or the website is a flat out lie.

From what I have read, moments ago is that a gene is added. Here is a cut and paste from the web site:

Exactly how is the fluorescent protein gene added to the fish?

Every line of GloFish® fluorescent fish (i.e., GloFish® Starfire Red™ Zebra, GloFish® Electric Green™ Zebra, and GloFish® Sunburst Orange™ Zebra) starts with a single fish. The process, illustrated in this chart, begins by adding a fluorescence gene to the fish when it is a minutes-old embryo. Once the gene integrates into the genome (i.e., genetic code) of the embryo, the developing fish will be able to pass the fluorescence gene along to its offspring upon maturity. Because of this, the gene only needs to be added to one embryo; from that point forward, all subsequent fluorescent fish are the result of traditional breeding.​

I do not think these fish should be lumped in with the painted or dyed fish.

I do not wish to argue about my feelings about these fish or try to convice anyone to get them or not. I just do not want people to be misunderformed.

there is die injected into there eggs, it's not natural so i wood sujest not getting them and hope the fadd ends soon, it's just ginetically wwrong in my opinion. this strategy is used to make more mony and harms the fish!

This is absolutely not true. Glofish are able to reproduce and their offspring are born in the same manner that the parents were which means that it can not be dye of any type. They are genetically engineered and there is no different between them and many other fish that have been bred differently for genetic reasons for years. If you have a problem with GloFish, then you should also have a problem with goldfish.

The fish store I saw them at had them set up away from the other fish. They might have had special lighting on them. I am not sure if they were required to do this to be a re-seller of Glofish or not.

Glofish does not require anything special to be a reseller of their fish. In fact, all we do is order them from our normal aquatic vendor. In our store I have the GloFish set up in their own tank... well, actually I house some bigger ghost shrimp there as well.... the reason why I keep them in their own tank is purely cosmetic purposes. Throw some este neon black lagoon gravel in there and it's a really awesome looking site.

I have been to an aquaculture facility where they are raised, THEY ARE NOT INJECTED WITH DYES OR PAINTS, the gene is added when the embryo is between 3 to 5 minutes of age, It is the process of genetic engineering and is not harmful to the fish













Remember, keeping fish is a lifestyle, NOT a hobby

I know someone posted about breeding the fish with other types of danios to create new colored species, but has anyone tried breeding say a green and a red one together?

I would be interested to see the results, maybe the offspring would be green, red or albino, or maybe they could create some cool combinations?

If anyone has tried this please let us know!

Well... How do you stop your fish from getting their groove thang on if you keep em all in a tank together?

I guess you just can't sell em etc etc, although, should my fish, once i get them, accidentally breed and form any new colors i'll let you all know

Well, you kindly use your index fingers to push the two offending danios apart while saying: "Pardon the intrusion, but you are currently violating copyrights and patents. Subsequent attempts at 'getting your groove on' will result in punishment, not limited to, but including: separation and time in prison. Thank you for your cooperation."

That's how I'd do it anyway....
