FREAKIN SNAILS!

They used to bother me to no end but now I have accepted the fact that they are quite good. I still take any big ones out on a daily basis so they do not overtake the tank but they do help keep the tank clean.

That's my view.

Part of the ecosystem you have created.

any tips on how to get rid of snails? i always seem to get them after i get plants even tho i check the plant for eggs and snails they still seem to appear from nowhere. at the moment i just wait till there big enough and pick them out. any other ideas?
If you aren't too squeamish about it, squish the snails between your fingers and let the fish eat 'em! I don't mind snails myself, I think they're neat to watch, the slow way they make their way around everything eating, cleaning, pooping... but yeah, they're great fish food too!

wow and we want them and can not have them. when we had a few in our tank our fish ate them :) do you have big enough fish to eat them? non of our fish are over 2 inches long and they love the snails  ( I hope they were not bad for them.

No problem for them to eat the snails if they want them. You could try Malaysian trumpet snails — even most puffers won't eat those.

I have heard that having the Mayan Trumpet in a planted tank is a good thing for a variety of reasons. To that end, I placed one in my tank. Time will tell if I end up with a horde or not...

they sound cool! but where to get them? my local fish store has none. ( local fish store stinks big time :(

There are usually some on eBay, or you could post in the Wanted section here. You may be able to get some for the cost of shipping.

petsmart carries a liquid i believe called rid a snail. put drops in . follow directions and then should get rid of snails. but i have never used it. i feed snails to my puffers. but they don't eat enough..

malaysian trumpet snails live in the gravel, and keep it churned, they do not eat plants, plus they are live bearers, don't lay eggs, have thousands of them, so cute, good at cleaning up overfeeds.. need some let me know, when it get warmer would consider shipping..

I have a heavily planted 40gallon Angelfish tank, and I love my snail infestation! I had the tank set up for a few months, and the algae started to overrun the plants, then all of a sudden hundreds of tiny snails appeared and began to literally mow down the algae that was covering the leaves of my plants, my plant growth exploded! not sure what type of snail they are (there seems to be 2 types) but they seem to leave the plants alone, and go for just the algae, I try to keep a dwarf gourami in there to keep the population down, but I can't seem to keep dwarf gourami's alive very long........

That stuff is bad joojoo. The active ingredient is copper, which will not only kill all invertebrates but can have strong negative effects on your other organisms as well.
