PetSmart Backroom

Of course they are taken to a back room!! Why would they leave the animals out where somebody would buy a sick animal. They take them to the back to treat them. I can almost guarantee that those water dishes were planted. That video, and PETA overall is the biggest load of you know what.

Like when they bought a bunch of tropical fish, tetras and stuff, so they could "set them free" in the Missouri River. That's what you call ironic.

EDIT: Has anybody here seen that episode of South Park? Where the gangster guys go to the PETA camp or whatever and shoot them all. I liked when the dog peed on the PETA guy's head and there was the little duck yelling "SHOOT ME" LMAO!!!

First off I have to ask what's PETA and what's with all this negative stigma around it? The second thing I have to say is that it would not surprize me if they had conditions like they mentioned in the video. However, I have to say that conditions vary from store to store and you can't say that all of them are bad because I simply haven't been to all of the petsmarts out there.

well, to start off, her voice was EXTREMELY annoying, i couldnt stand it for some reason. second, they showed the same dead hamster over and over. and last they didnt talk about anything but hamsters and gerbils, they said nothing about reptiles and amphibians and species are becomingcloser to extinction everyday because of the pet-trade industry. i think the near extinction of many reptiles and amphibians is a more important issue than dead hamsters in the back of a petsmart. just my opinion and if it got anybody mad sorry.

I still haven't been told what PETA is.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals... yea right

not once did she mention the thousands of perfectly healthy and adoptable animals they euthanized at their facilities last year, to "save them." i dont think so.

at least the people are trying to treat them animals and making an attempt instead of killing them off.

do you know how hard it is to identify a bird with an upper respriatory disease early? not only that, but they usually do not show symptoms untill it gets serious, usually days or even weeks later from the origional problem. birds are very good at hiding any illnesses. they couldve gotten this acclaimed infection at the breeder. from the ammount of birds in that cage, it looked like they had just been shipped over. stress can also play a factor in a birds appearance. when budgies are stressed they tend to be a little "droopy," and they werent "getting fresh air" they were running from her. birds that have infected respiratory systems sit and mope, not fly around.

yes, they are put into tanks that are overstocked, but that is because for one, they are all still small, two, they are only going to be in there for a week, and three, they have massive filters behind the tanks that keep everything circulated and that can cope with the stock. again, stress plays a big role of how many fish die. other fish are also sickly, and when all of these factors are piled on, they die.

I skimmed the web site and it doesn't look bad to me. What's with this negative stigma around it. I would really like it people would tell me exactly why PETA is such a bad thing.

I care about animals and their treatment and support causes like my local animal shelters, but, PETA people go over the edge. They show extreme cases of 'abuse' and exaggerate problems to draw attention to their cause. They have a very narrow, rigid view of things; they don't seem to look for a middle ground. They hate to admit that a store like PetsMart does ANYTHING right with their live animals.

In short, they are extremists. To give you an idea, I have been a vegetarian for 20 years and I think they are nut jobs. I am very much in favor of animal welfare, and PETA occasionally brings up an important point. However their delivery only alienates the people they are trying to reach. There are groups working on behalf of animals used in medical research, in the meat industry, etc. who acknowledge that these things will always exist, so they may as well create the best possible conditions for the animals in said industries. This is a fine idea. PETA, on the other hand seeks to eliminate these industries rather than improve them. It's an obviously losing battle which does no one any good. There are certain animal uses I personally wish would disappear, fur for one, but rather than take a sane approach to these issues PETA launches assaults on personal property. Whose mind is this going to change? No one's. Their borderline violent tactics and air of superiority are what makes PETA an essentially useless organization. They are a laughingstock, and unfortunately they make a laughingstock of anyone with vaguely similar goals.
