New Prime Smells Terrible

I have been using Prime for quite awhile, but a few days ago I ran out and bought a new bottle.

After doing some water changes I got a terrible smell in my house. I traced it back to the fish tank. After further research I found the Prime is incredibly foul smelling both in the tank and in the bottle.

As I said I have used it for quite awhile and I have never had this problem.

It smells like dog crap.

Has anyone else ran into this?

Should I take it back?

I would. I haven't heard of any people saying that Prime smells horrible and its one of the water conditioners/fixers that I recommend. It could just be that you got a bad bottle or the product is too old or not mixed well or whatever various reasons. We once had a bottle of Tetra (i think that was the brand) returned because when you opened the bottle you wanted to run out of the room.

my prime smells like sulphur and on the bottle its what it says it should smell like. If it stronger or a different smell from the others take it back.

prime does bear an odor, thats for sure.

Used to I could smell it if I whiffed the bottle but this time it makes the whole tank stink.


My wife and I was searching the entire room for dog crap. We were sure our dogs had gone in the floor. Which was shocking because they just dont do that.

We then found it was from the tank.

It does this when I use it and I've had no ill effects. Although it should subside after a couple of hours.

mine smells the same way.. if i leave the bottle open for any more than a few seconds, the whole room starts to smell bad.

works just fine. dont take it back.
