How fast Clown Loaches grow?

2 inches would be too much....after that point...their growth slows down dramatically..thats why its rare for them to reach beyond 10 inches in captivity.and explains why their price tag increases exponentially. :D

I know many people including myself whose clowns have grown more than 2 inches in a year. It is not rare for a clown to reach beyond 10 inches in captivity when properly house, it is average. The problem is most people do not properly house their loaches do to ill advice. Rare would be to reach over 18 inches as they do in the wild.

I bought my 7 loaches about 2 months ago and they are ca 7 cm long. haven't noticed any growth yet. I have 500 L tank, I have peat in filter, PH is ca 7,5 and GH 12 (not ideal, I know...). Lot's of caves and wood. No water flow unfortunately, except the one that comes from filter. I do water changes every week or every other week. What I'm worried about are the PH fluctuations due to water changes and also there is some grey dust flowing in my tank - why??? ( my tank is quite new - 5 months).
The loaches share the tank with 15 tiger barbs (very happy together, even schooling with them) and 6 blue gouramies.
I'm planning to take 1 red-tailed shark too. Is this a good idea?

Your stocking levels sound fine for your tank size, however it does not sound like you have enough filtration. What kind and how many filters do you have? It may be a good idea to add a powerhead to your tank for better circulation. As far as water changes go you should be changing 40-50% of the water 1-2 times per week for maximum clown growth. As far as the red-tailed shark I do not think it should cause any problems, but you never know with them.

18 would be rare?any proof that it has been recorded?14-16 would be plausible...not 18...

back to the statement, i dont recall anyone who actually owns a clown loach which even reached 8 inches in 4 years(assuming 2 inches per year)

Most stop at 8 inches and takes a few years before it reaches 10 inches.

I know several people to owns 10 inches clown loaches that are raised in captivity and it takes roughly 10 years..

2 inches per year is only valid for small loaches, as they grow..1 inch per year would be very good. :)

I have JBL Crystal Profi 500 filter which turns 1200 L water per hour. Since my tank is not too crowdy I supposed it will do for a while???

I don't know if there is anything to this , however I've found in every group of CL's one will grow faster. When this happens remove the largest one from the tank and place him in another tank alone. It's like musical chairs in a way, then another loach seems to have a growth spurt in the same tank I removed the alpha sized one from..and so on and so on..fairly soon they are all about the same size, then I start all over again.... I have no idea why this happens, just an observation.

Random thought .........:coffee2:
I saw a special the other day on trout farming and did some reading ,they have to be raised in raceways with flowing fresh water to increase growth and to get them to market faster. This reading leads to oxygen and water conditions to stimulate growth.Any thoughts on pheromones:read:

Or this article leads you to creating the Barry Bonds or Slvester Stallone of fish perhaps the most fool proof method for growth for a CL..:dance2:
