Help identifying algae - wierd looking.

I am still fighting the cyano.
I have a few more questions.
1) Should I be rinsing my filter pad or not ?
2) Should I even use a mechanical filter at all ? I have a good skimmer and plenty of rock/water flow.
3) Should I be running a full lighting cycle, or a limited one, or none at all ?

I have been doing all of what has been previously suggested, and its still getting worse:

What sort of lighting are you running? and how old are they now? My red algae is all but gone. I only have it in the sump, where I didn't change the lights.

Is there any other product like Kent Marine have similar effect on the Cyanobacteria as Chemi-Clean? All LFS nearby don't sell Chemi-Clean!

Lights will add a bit of heat, try flow that disturbs the water surface, or a small fan positioned to blow air across the surface. The temp variance you are getting isn't too much to worry about, but you should address it.

Back to the lights, how old are they?

Bought them 3 months ago brand new. Have been running them for about a month and a half of that time.

That makes me think ... I have my tank covered with glass lids ... keeps the evaporation to a minimum, but its probably whats causing the temp swings !

... and possibly screwing up my lighting ???????

What do we think ?

I haven't used covers for a looooong time. It's amazing watching them explode under a MH lamp. It would be affecting the light to a degree, get rid of them! I think this deserves a poll....
