Omg Glow In The Dark Fish!-what The?

this has nothing to do with blame.

this has to do with meeting customer demands for popular fish.

I don't like parrots as much as you do, but I don't fault the LFS's for trying to stay in business.

Sure it does. You don't agree with the fish, but you still buy and sell them because they want them.

In essence, I don't agree with the fish, don't think they should be sold and promoted, but I will buy some and sell them to you so I can make a buck and stay in business. Your purchase of them contributes to the continued promotion and production of them. Get real.

Which means you sell out your principles to make a buck.

what people are not understanding is that most LFS do not have the luxury of not selling popular fish.

popular fish means customers in your store, buying all kinds of things in addition to these particular fish.

sure, the LFS's have a choice:L

sell them and stay in business.

or

don't sell them, have the customers go to the competition and then go bankrupt.

This choice is not hard to make.

we may not like it, but thats life if you want to run a business succesfully.

I disagree 100%.

What you are stating, is that no one can stay in business without compromising their principles. That may be a way of life for you but not for many folks.

Promoting that belief just reinforces unscruplous behavior in all endeavors. You use someone else's behavior to justify your actions or inactions.

Not as a compromise to your own standards. You constantly display a position of mis-trust to me. I would stay as far from your shop that I could. And any other LFS that did business in that way.

well, pretty much I guess...presuming that the owner of the LFS concerned shares the distaste for e.g. BP's, and sells them anyway. If he/she doesn't then they are not compromising their principles.

I'd stop shopping in my LFS in a flash if they had dyed fish (never gonna happen though)...I don't view the non-dyed BP's with quite the same odium.

then it would be your loss.

because just because a store sells blood parrots does not mean they are a dishonest, scamming and othewise bad business to shop at.

you seem to be suggesting that they must be.

you would have nowhere to shop at if you lived where I do.

all the stores around here are big and have a wide selection of fish, including blood parrots.

If I didn't shop at these stores, I would have nowhere to shop at.

Now, if I chose to boycott these stores because they sold blood parrots, where exactly do you expect me to get my fish and supplies?

I would love to know...
