The fins were like that when I got him/her. I got up really close the it and the was like a metallics blue on the gill covers. The ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate about 20. Right now it is in a 10g tank. Because that is all I have. What size tank I can put it in. I planed on get a 30g soon is that to small. Will the fins grow back. Thanks
Sounds like "coler" is on the right track. I remember a description comparing these to the demasoni's.
I can guarantee it is NOT a demasoni. Their dark bars do not fade out towards the belly and continue to the end of the tail.

The only problem with the ID here is it looks to have SIX bars .. I would see how that sixth bar develops.. And if it doesn't then the above is likely correct.. But you'll notice that Neolamprologus Sexfasciatus is a more likely candidate.. As the fact that in a 5 bar the fifth bar is where the sixth bar on the Authors picture is
Correct me if I am wrong .. But it looks more like Sexfas than Treto to me.
well it will be just about OK in a 30G on its own as regards size, but is not likely to take kindly to tankmates when it matures and its not an ideal single specimen fish
Fins should grow back if good water parameters are maintained. Melafix will also help with that.
As regards whether its a tret/sexfasciatus, On closer inspection I can't really tell if the 'bar' closest the tail is a bar/associated to the fin damage or a shadow. If that's colouration by way of a bar it has 6 and is therefore sexfasciatus.
Why are you all guessing? akapaul26 was right. It is def. a female Kenyi (Lombardoi). If you know anything about Mbunas or african cichlids this is one of the easiest IDs.

I don't have a female kenyi but I do have a tretocephalus and hey...I could be wrong
