I've been trying to cure my goldfish for over a year! Any ideas on what to do now?

Don't feel bad about the salt, there are many conflicting opinions on it. Were you using salt as well as other medications all this time? That could account for some of her issues, but who knows. I'm glad to hear she is getting better. :) Generally it's not a good idea to combine meds with...

    senegal bichr has red fin

Have you checked the water parameters? My next suggestion is to put him in a separate tank, if he's being harassed the fin should quickly heal and you can figure out what to do from there.

Euthanize? Yes or No? Picture included.

Something else I'll add, I had a molly once that got sucked into the filter and I didn't know it. The bottom of the intake tube had fallen off without my knowledge. When I realized it, I quickly looked inside the filter and there she was. Her spine was all kinds of bent and she looked...

Euthanize? Yes or No? Picture included.

I'm not sure if the thread has degenerated into an argument, I only read up to this point, but I agree with the above. Observe first, euthanize later. Sometimes fish with bent spines can still live a relatively normal, comfortable life. They don't have to be in perfect form. Mmm, well, now...

how has fishkeeping saved you or helped you?

My dh works 7 days a week, and also socializes a lot with friends, and I have limited working hours. So I'm home alone with the kids a lot, at least the younger one, with a lot of financial worries and little social life. My fish and pets (my kids too of course, but two are grown and I really...

I've been trying to cure my goldfish for over a year! Any ideas on what to do now?

Yes, no need for salt, in fact salt can irritate goldfish and interfere with their slime coat. But I'm sure there is a better way of phrasing that, hopefully someone else will come along and be more specific. Regarding the toxins in the drain, that is interesting, I never heard of that before...

Good luck with the new little guy! I don't blame you, I wouldn't have been able to leave him there, either.

This thread has been very disturbing to me. I agree, take it to a pet store rather than put it down. Did the OP even try Craigslist?

    First Time Goldfish

That is really pretty! A 55 would be a great size for 3 fancies for a long time, but it's possible you might eventually need an even bigger tank if you add another goldfish. I know they seem small now, but they will live many, many years, and get absolutely huge. Then suddenly that big tank...

    4 oranda goldfish in a 10 gallon

Yeah, I'm not like the toads being hit with airsoft guns. There's just no reason for it, it's cruel and immature.

    all about midniht

I'm so sorry to hear that. How large is the tank, and how many fish remaining? It looks pretty small, I wouldn't get another to replace Midnight. And be sure the remaining moor gets enough food, comets are fast swimmers and can prevent slower-swimming fancy goldfish like moors from getting...

Overstocked... I need a new tank, right?

Are ALL those fish currently in a 5 gallon tank? That's just cruel, be sure you are doing large, daily water changes until you get new tanks. You'll need two, one for the goldfish, and one for the tropicals. You might be able to get by with a 29 for the two goldfish, with frequent partial...
