There will always be some dissolved CO2 in the water, which will be replenished by exchange with air at the surface. There would probably be enough CO2 in your tank, given that it doesn't look heavily planted.

Riccia would also do. (It's what my Sparkling Gourami has used.)

I'm surprised you are getting that reading for ammonia, after what you have written. But, yeah, it sounds like mini-cycle.

Sounds like the eggs are gone - sorry!. But they will probably breed again. I was going to suggest you wait until the fry are hatched and free swimming before you remove them (although you need a very fine net), which might take about 4 days from spawning, so you have time to think about it...
